Sky...I think you had excellent advice for Jason. I know we all struggle with guilt about leaving places, not going places, etc., etc. But if we had a physical illness that was causing us much discomfort we would be much easier on ourselves, right? Sometimes, even though it might look ridiculous, I leave a situation, calm down, and then return. We need to give ourselves as much freedom as possible. And, you're right!, quit beating up on ourselves!

Hi Jason, It’s always good to vent. I beat myself up for this kinda thing all the time too. But for me it’s because I usually stay at parties and suffer a night of anxiety instead of doing the right thing by myself and going home! So I commend you for doing the right thing by yourself! If it’s any conciliation to you, in my experience if I stay somewhere while my gut feeling is telling me to ‘go easy and just excuse yourself’ I nearly always end up having a disappointing time. Look at it this way, you made the effort to go, and did so. So in that way you didn’t let the anxiety win. Take care. :)

My cousin had a birthday party tonight that started at 7:30, and I think it's scheduled to end at maybe 2 am? Anyway, I got there at the beginning, but I had a panic attack and I felt like I had to leave at about 10 pm. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself, but I feel like I failed tonight. I was fine the first couple of hours - mingling... playing foosball... had a couple beers... helping set up the festivities (it was an 80's theme night). But around 9:30, my stomach started acting up and I started to feel nervous about playing the "ice breaker" games they had set up like charades. Then I had stomach problems in the bathroom and so I started to panic. I told my cousin I had to leave to go study for something on Monday and I said goodbye, left before the games started and drove my other cousin home cuz he was counting on me for a ride. Now I kinda feel like I should have stayed a while so I don't reinforce my fears or something. Or that I let down my cousin or the other guests. Or that I made the fear worse for other social occassions. Ugh. Anyway, just venting.
