for 19 år siden 0 6 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
HI, im probably in the wrong topic but i read that some other people were afraid of vomiting in here. I have been terrified of vomiting my whole life, its really ruining everything i refuse to go anywhere or eat very much, especially afriad of catchin the flu. I used to have a fear of swallowing pills but i started by chewing some of them and then gradually i got over that fear. Has anyone or does anyone know of someone who got over their fear of vomiting and how did they do it?? please if anyone can help me i would be so grateful. Thank you, i hope you all get better. Sincerely, Nicki

hi sky i'm ivy and one of my big phobias is choking from food, tablets or vomit. when it is really bad i eat soups and banana smoothies but i find if i distract myself with other thoughts while swallowing and try not to focus on the fear of swallowing it helps...easier said than done!.. i think it stems from having glandular fever which gave me tonsillitis and swollen glands constantly for years and made swallowing difficult. hugs, ivy.

I am uncomfortable around large groups too or people I don't know. I have missed out on alot of celebrations of people I am close too which hurts. My social life is pretty much nil. If people offer me food I freeze inside and say no thanks. On ocassions I can seem to get it all together and go out but it's too rare. I don't drive unless some is in the car with me. Hate being in traffic and dread read lights. Thats when I really have to control the anxiety. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for about a year now. He's ok but sometimes I think he doesn't understand how tough some things are for me which fraustrates me. I fear vomiting too, especially if I'm alone. it happen this one time which I won't forget. It's bad enough worrying about food going down let alone it coming back up. Because of my liquid diet which has stuffed up my stomach to no end I get reflux alot. I hate it and on ocassions it happens at night which causes me to wake up a bit anexious. It use to be real bad were I would have full blown panic attacks.

Slinky, Please do not think your symptoms are insignificant, share as much as you can with your doctors. This will really help in getting to the bottom of all of the issues at bay, therefore helping you recover from your anxiety. I know how you feel the thought of vomiting or somebody else vomiting is what has triggered other anxieties. I no longer like large environment's for fear of no help if I'm sick or somebody else is. I also don't like parties cause everybody is eating and drinking lots. I have been seeing a psychologist for over a year and haven't told her this as it seemed so insignificant and petty. Reading these posts has made me see other people feel this way. I worry but when I think about it theres nothing to worry about but it still scares me sooo much. I think this fear started in Yr. 2 when a girl in my class was sick on me.

Bubbleguy, When you say you have had no solids for 15 months, are you keeping your weight on? As long as your pureed foods/liquids are supporting your bodies caloric requirements there should not be a problem until you feel good about eating solids again. Try to cut your food into tiny pieces to start and chew really well. Please follow up with you doctor, perhaps a referral to a dietician might be beneficial to see that you meet your bodies needs. Hi When I see/hear people coughing when something goes down the wrong way my body instantly reacts. I get that sharp tingling feeling in my hand, my heart jumps a beat and my body goes to jelly. My brains goes in to plan too. If it's someone I know and they carn't seem to clear there throat and are diffently choking to firstly do the himlick thing with your arms. If that doesn't work do cpr and call 000. I learnt the himlick thing off the net and also need to refresh the cpr procedure. Because I suffer for panic attacks on and off over the last 10 years I am mostly on high alert for bad things to happen. I'm nearly 30. I would tell you my real age but since I havn't eaten anything solid for 15 months straight and going through a rough time I am too embarassed to say. Thanks for your reply to my post. Nice to know that somewhere others have gone through this nightmare as well.

Hi Sky, I went through a period of time where I would only eat mashed up food for fear of choking. I started out with soups and mashed potatos, avacodos mashed, ice creams, pureed fruit drinks. It def. helped me move on to solid foods, but I know just how you feel. I was also afraid of throwing up. It takes time, but go at a pace you feel comftorble with, don't feel pressure to have to eat all the time or have everything solid. Hope that helps.. take care and good luck=)

Dear JenD Thanks for your reply. This first began when I was 15 and choked on a bit of food for what seemed like ages. I don't want to say what it was because the thorght of it still today affects me. Anyway I didn't eat any solid food till I finished high school except a small handful of soft mashed roasted potatoes when I got home for school. For some reason that was the only food I didn't fear. That was my diet for a full 2 years. I was quite a solid boy before this happen but by the end of it I was very under weight. Teachers kept on having meetings with me persisting that I stop school and just worry about getting better beacause I just look too malnourished. But I continued on. I was having panic attacks at home alot and sometimes a school. Other students hardly commented. But their faces told that they knew something drastic had happen. The weight drop was fast. Somehow towards the end of my VCE I slowly slowly managed to coach myself to eat solid food again. Through these 2 years I had no professional support and no real support from my family. Mum couldn't understand what was happening and dad said "Eat or die". Words that still today play in my ears. I was so amazed that i got over it. In a way felt lucky. When I was 21 I was going through some rough times with my demanding job, interstate relationship and flairing family issues. The panic attackes returned along with my fear of eating. So after leaving my job, leaving my home and relationship ending I didn't have the mental strength to tackle this alone again so I sort professional help. It surprising helped and only took six months for me to start eating basic foods again. Like bread, pasta and potatoes and some chicken. They were all in simple for forms, couldn't handle say like a sandwich. Too many layers to worry about when chewing. Then the next six months I lapsed back again. Not sure why. This is how it for 3 years. 6 months eating then 6 months fearing food again. But this last whole year I havn't dared touch any solid food and it scares me to death. I am mentally worn out by this fear and the challange that comes with it. Since my last lapsed in this ongoing drama I stop seeing my counselor till the begining of this year. Anyway tomorrow she would like me
