tryagain, You've gotten excellent advice from everyone here. I hope you will see your doctor as soon as possible, as you should have a check-up and there are good medications your doctor can give you to ease withdrawl symptoms. I understand how you feel, because I was resigned to any early demise and I did not believe I could ever quit. Fortunately, I ended up here and decided to look around. That was less than 3 weeks ago and I smoked my last cigarette last night! I have not had any big cravings yet today, nor was it difficult for me to smoke only that one cigarette all day yesterday! In addition to reading everything you can possibly read on this site, I suggest you read the Easyway to Quit Smoking. It may not be for everyone, but it was the eye opener I needed to proceed with my quit. Wishing you and your husband the best, Pat There is no try, there is only do My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Have you consulted a MD? The junkie mind is strong. almost everyone knows of someone smoking while prescribed oxygen, having a trach or in between breathing treatments. The important thing today is to get past the next 5 minutes, which is the time frame you gave for in between smokes. Hang tough. Hello Tryagain You are here for the same reason that we are. We are ALL addicts. The reason that we have chosen to smoke even though we had to go out in the snow, even though we were so sick we couldn't breathe, even though we knew we were killing ourselves is BECAUSE we are addicts. The good news is that we CAN quit. It's all about developing a new way of thinking and a new lifestyle. Talk to your doctor about how best for you to quit (medications, nrts or cold turkey) Jump on board.....there is tons of support and advice here to help you along each step of the way. Won't it be great to breathe again?? Try again, Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking! That is the first step to freedom! The next step was joining here and posting. So now, you're two steps closer to being a non-smoker! How awesome is that?!?! I know the ill-effects of smoking all too well. Before I started this quit process in June of 2005, I was on breathing treatments 2 times a day, SEVEN different medications for my breathing and STILL had a constant cough that never went away. And the kicker? I was 28 years old! So I can definitely relate to your problems with your breathing. The good news is that no matter how addicted we are, we can ALL quit! I never thought that I could, but I have... and so will you! Just believe in yourself and remember N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. It's really the key to a successful quit. You said that you "hope" that this is the last time for you... well, only you can make that a reality. Don't just "hope." DO! Quitting smoking means not smoking that next cigarette. It's that simple - not easy, but simple. So make a plan for what you will do when the cravings hit and be ready! You CAN do this! And we'll help you throughout this process any way we can. Best wishes! Crave the Quit! Tryagain, Your lungs are telling you enough is enough. It is time for you to head their warning. Start looking at where, when and why you keep lighting up. Keep a journal if it helps. Just as the members have said, you are an addict. You have a physical and mental addiction to cigarettes. Understanding your addiction and it's role in your life can help you break free. Be sure to take advantage of our online quit program. It will help you start preparing to deal with cravings and teach you what you need to know about quitting. The members of this site have also done an excellent job sharing their experiences and their research with the group. Start browsing and reading up on the journey of those that have come before you. It isn't easy but it can be done! Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

I have been sick off and on for a couple of years with breathing problems. Sometimes I can't breathe and struggle even to the point of pulling a muscle in my back or side. I think I sleep well, but my husband tells me that I'm restless and often struggle to breathe. I'll tell you how bad this is. When I smoke, I can only have a puff or two before I am so sick I have to put it out. I save the darn things and light up again in five minutes! I have not been able to smoke an entire cigarette for over a year. When it gets bad enough I stop smoking and the symptoms rapidly disappear by the second night of no smoking I'm sleeping peacefully. The chest pains go away. Is there any reason an intelligent person would continue to smoke? I can't believe I am so utterly dense that as soon as I feel better, I'm out there buying a carton! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting a different result. When am I going to just stop being insane! I'm a reasonable intelligent person with a college education and a doctorate degree. It's like I just cannot get this simple cause and effect into my head. My husband smokes too, in the last six months my breathing difficulties have gotten so severe that I don't have to smoke to choke. He smokes, and I can't breathe. It's not practical at all for him to go outside to smoke so he's quitting too. He can breathe just fine sitting still, just can't walk across the street without getting winded. In fact if ANYBODY smokes and I get it into my lungs I immediately can't breathe. This is driving me crazy because I still smoke myself! I'll light up, inhale, can't breathe, put it out, and light up again in a couple of minutes. I can breeze through a couple of packs a day like this. WHY? I feel like I'm going totally crazy. I have heard that because so many people have quit smoking, cigarette companies are manipulating the nicotine levels of cigarettes to make it harder to quit. This might have the effect of also making people like me a lot sicker than if the levels had just remained the same. This would account for my rather bizarre behavior. Do you think this is true? Is this what's happening? Every other time I quit, it didn't take long for me to abandon it an
