Hello and Welcome again!!! You sure have received some sound advice here! I say take it all in, and then relax. Give yourself a break! You obviously know how to quit. Just re-new your plan for starters. Re-commit, if you will. The problem lies with staying quit. I found this from someone a while back, and I like to copy it for people that are teetering on the thought of lighting one up: As long as your mind holds on to the fact that you might give in and let yourself have a cig, it will continue to hold out hope that your quit won't last (and the cravings that come with it will overwhelm you). See? If you continue to ponder the thought of possibly lighting one up, your addiction will over power you and then you will create any excuse to justify lighting that one. And there you go. You are back smoking. Smoking is a nasty, discusting, and hurtful addiction. It destroys us, and yet we still 'awe' for that inhale. You MUST NOT think of quitting as a loss of something. Only you can control your own thoughts. You can make it go either way. Stay close by, and know that we are all here rooting for you! You CAN do this. And remember: N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever 4my2girls My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 290 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,726 Amount Saved: $948.3 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 9 Mins: 47 Seconds: 24

final quit - Nothing at all is wrong with you... There is one thing that just IS when it comes to a successful Quit... That is simply that your desire to quit has got to be stronger than your desire to smoke... if that's not true, it won't work, or last... No exception to this rule... Congratulations FQ......you are still trying to quit. I keep reading about the new drug chantix and I only wish it was around when I quit. Have you considered trying it? If the cig tastes bad it will help when you begin to crave.....that is, if you take the meds. I'm surprised there isn't a big commercial blitz on TV like they do with other stuff (like a 4 hour WHAAAT?) Anyway it's nice to have the option. Have a peaceful and happy holiday. Alright, everyone says it's ok to quit a few times before you get it right. But I have quit and started up again so many times I can't count. OK, the first time was over ten years ago and I've quit at least once a year since then. I am a habitual quitter! (Yes, it's ironic that my login name is "final quit" and I started using this site two years ago, thinking then that it was the last time!) My last quit lasted two months, maybe. Now I'm back to smoking again. I just can't handle the way I feel when I'm not smoking. I'm cranky, irritated, depressed, bitter...(I could go on) I tried Zyban and it didn't help. In fact, it made me feel worst! I tried everything, even hypnosis. I just don't know what's wrong with me. I know I want to quit..... Well, my new quit date is Jan. 1. Might as well enjoy myself over the holidays. I don't think there is anything that I don't already know about preparing myself. This time I'm going cold turkey. I am going to try to keep posting in this site. That's the only thing I haven't tried yet.... Thank you for your support. :) Yes, I have tried the gum and it helped, although obviously not enough. (Phil, I may take you up on your offer.) the thing that's wrong is that you quit and then decide that you want to smoke worse than you want to quit and it must be just the opposite. Once you have stopped for a couple of weeks, you have to work on learning how to "cope" with the urges that the junky keeps bringing into play. If you don't learn at least "some" coping skills, you will have a tough time maintaining your quit, cause you are always gonna be a nicotine addict....and if you give that addiction ANY leeway, it is gonna steamroll right over you and take back the control of your thinking AND your actions....and that, my friend will have you smoking in nothing flat! There can be NO bargaining with the junky....not even about how you THINK about your past smoking. You have got to take it straight on and see it for what it is....dirty, disgusting and deadly.....and then you treat it like you would treat ANYthing that was that way....you stay AWAY from it and all thinking about it. You learn to distract yourself...and then reward yourself for being successful at it. so get the commitment going.....and determine that you want quitting WORSE than you want smoking Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1811 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 72,473 Amount Saved: $10322.7 Life Gained: Days: 236 Hrs: 7 Mins: 53 Seconds: 59

Final, Ease up on yourself and give yourself a break. You have come back here to try again and this is commendable. Learning from this mistake will make you stronger and prepare you for the next time. You will be ready and will not slip! Why not check with your doctor to come up with a plan that is right for you and your body. Your pharmacist can also be of great help :) We are ready when you are :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
