You are not alone in reQuit time. I can remember buying a pack, smoking just one, and throwing the pack away. Like that was gonna help me quit? And at today's prices! So the problem is not the persistence, it's the follow through.
So, how do you increase your follow through. I only know of one way. DON'T LIGHT ANOTHER SMOKE!!! Ok, now that I have your attention, you have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. Period. If you still want to smoke more than you want to quit, then you will. You are prolonging the torture, but if you want to quit more than you want to smoke it will happen.
When you feel like a chihuahua and all jitterey and can't think and want to choke someone, and you hate yourself for the things you said and how you said them all day, you STILL DO NOT go to the store, park your car, open the door, shut the door, lock the door, go through the store door, pull out your wallet, walk to the counter, say the brand you want, pay the cashier, walk back outside, open the pack, take one out, pull out the lighter or matches, and light it. Do you see how many opportunities there are to CHOOSE NOT TO SMOKE? And actually, there are so many more steps to this that I could not possibly list them all. So choose. Smoking or not. It's my choice, what's your choice?
Maybe this is harsh, but if you have been "trying" for 10 years, it's time to do something different. The true definition of insanity is continuing to do what you've always done and expecting different results. So. Whatcha say? I'll be here and so will bunches of others.
