Long Term Benefits to Quitting Smoking

for 18 år siden 0 744 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I can sing again! I don't know what to make of this next one, but when I smoked outside in the dark, it messed with my balance and I'd stagger around like a drunk person. There had been times that I actually fell. Now, I don't leave the impression that I'm drunk/stoned. (and I don't even drink) If anyone has had this happen and/or knows why, I would be very interested in your information. I too, have a weight issue, as far as not being able to gain. I have always been thin, and expected that I would gain when I quit, which didn't happen. I lost even more weight, but now, I am slowly putting on a pound or two here and there. So, Phil, care to share with the weight that is being offered to you? I had heart palpatations and now they have improved dramatically. There had been a few times when just after smoking a cigarette, I would break into a cold sweat, get real weak and dizzy, and have to lie down for a few minutes until it passed. Don't know what that was all about either, but obviously wasn't doing my body any favors here, so of course this problem is resolved as well. I don't have as many headaches now that I quit. I found out my asthma had gotten worse when I quit. As for feeling better, I cough more, even at 6+ months. Its getting all the crud out still to this day. Other than that, I can finally keep up with my kids without falling over tired when at the park Hugs Kim My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 187 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,690 Amount Saved: $757.35 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 12 Mins: 45 Seconds: 8

Hi Kaitilina Great post - thanks. For me I certainly feel I can breathe better and I can exercise better too. I certainly smell better and food tastes yum! Most importantly I feel 1000 times better about myself for being smoke free. I also echo what Phil said (not about the weight though - grrrr!!!!) - I do love the people on this site and the great support here. All the best Sharon My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 594 Amount Saved: 158.71 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 23 Mins: 55 Seconds: 42

Hi Phil Well it's kinda all over but I'm pounding it to the pavement at the moment - I've started a running plan - couch to 5k and I think it's working. I feel very determined about it and even go out in the rain and fully intend to stick to it over Christmas. You know Phil you are just a big sweetheart for offering to carry the load for us - soooo kind :). Big hugz to you Sharon My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 594 Amount Saved: 158.71 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 23 Mins: 56 Seconds: 35

I have noticed that my cough is gone. I like that because before both my husband and I would cough in the morning and wake up the boy. Now we sleep in a little longer. I have also noticed that my nasal congestion is gone....That used to wake me up at night. I have noticed more energy. I used to need a nap just to get through the day, and go to bed early. Now I don't feel like napping (unless it's to escape) and I can stay up later. Now, if I could just sleep.... I've noticed too that I have better control of my anger and have more patience. Lot of great benefits to quitting. I quit almost 5 years ago.....I haven't had a cold since....my allergies have become almost nonexistant.....I can RUN (and I am old enough I though I could NEVER do that) I can BREATH....I have the wind I had 30 years ago! The longer you go without smoking the greater the improvements....they are sometimes hard to actually believe. I am in awe of my health improvement! Quitting is a reward to myself that I will never be able to top Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1803 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 72,120 Amount Saved: $10277.1 Life Gained: Days: 235 Hrs: 4 Mins: 17 Seconds: 46

Great topic and very motivating! How have you improved because of your quit? What is the best thing about your quit? Thanks Kaitilina! Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
