Congrats on day 9 Jan. You said: I miss it. Which part do you miss the most? The tar on your lungs, the stinking fingertips or the stains on your teeth? Try to see it positive and think that you are a non-smoker now. You can do that. Go on with your quit Jan, we are here with you all the way. I couldn't find the post here (I think it is too old) but I did find a portion of it in my quit journal. It was written by golferman. In many ways smoking is like being in an abusive relationship. The abuser breaks down the will of the victim and makes them feel dependent on them. They destroy their ability to think for themselves and create a climate of reliance. Isnt that smoking in its purest form? The addiction gets a hold of you and makes you totally dependent on it. If you try to leave it, it makes your life miserable. It rules every facet of your life. Controlling you. Having you obey it. And while it is controlling you, it is slowly killing you, just as an abuser often torments their victims, often times leading to injury or death. My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 569 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,391 Amount Saved: $1991.5 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 10 Mins: 2 Seconds: 3

Jan,
Am I mourning the passing of my smoking habit, the one that held me prisoner for nearly 25 years? Yes. I won't lie, I miss it.
You have explained it so well with the above statement. Quitting can often be like grieving the lost of a good friend. The cigarette was our friend in every situation for many many years. It comforted us in times of sadness, kept us company in times of loneliness, gave us something to do when we were board, celebrated life events with us. We simply spent a lot of time with the cigarette and now that is gone. You have to allow yourself time to adjust. It isn't easy but you will do it. Take some deep breaths, recognize what you are feeling for what it is worth and face the truth head on. You no longer smoke. Someone long ago used the analogy of leaving an abusive relationship to compare to quitting smoking. I will see if I can find it and bump it for you. Meanwhile, hang in there.
