We're grateful of your support and highlighting issues relevant to all of us and grateful that you have such a wonderful family who supports you and that you have made yourself more fully available to them. Should I alert google map quest that the Grand Canyon is now a moving target? Dunedad, you know we love you. But this situation rings like your response to the gas post where your wife says something to the effect of "what new side-effect - you've been doing that for years". Really, 13 years? Did you go to a new dentist or tell the old one that you were away on affairs of the state so you couldn't get in for 13 years? I've been thinking about you lately - the freak out at the ultimate vacation (in which you were stellar), the alcohol (in which you were wonderfully accomidating (sp?)), the weight gain (I didn't read that one- just saw "I never thought I'd see myself here") [I myself am trying to stay out of there] , the dentist. What are you trying to say? I think it's something deeper. I would be very happy for you to tell me that I am wrong. I don't know, something about being grateful for quitting, or quitting revealing underlying issues, or the same issues being there even when you quit or taking care of yourself means ....what. Did the dentist blame you smoking for your teeth? I know it has to do with gum disease and healing. Don't get me wrong, I'm just wondering if there is a deeper issue. I'm wondering this b/c I've seen such wonderful momentum with you and I would feel responsible if I am supposed to be catching something. I went to the dentist today with a nagging toothache, I figured I needed a root canal done. Much to my chagrin the dentist informed me it was too far gone and needed to be pulled. To my dismay he checked the rest of my teeth and discovered they are in jeopardy as well, if I don't get a major cleaning done (more Pain). And possibly oral surgery (yet even more pain) Now I know I really should have gone to the dentist more, the last time I went was 13 years ago, after all. But I am equally placing the blame on the fact that I smoked. All those chemicals had to have some sort of degenerative effect. So here I am with gauze stuffed in my cheek, high on Vicoden, feeling pretty grateful that I quit smoking and I am, over the course of the next few months, going to get my mouth healthy again. This is my reward program...screwy aint it?...lol My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 113 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,277 Amount Saved: $553.7 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 14 Mins: 14 Seconds: 21

Hey guys !! Thanks Christine.. My grille looks good right now, but the damage can keep going if I let it go, and become evident when I smile...eeeww. Hey Imallclear. Long time!! What I meant by "grateful" was that I am grateful I didnt continue smoking with my head in the sand for another 5 or whatever years and have to shop for dentures. Grateful I came to this site and went through the program and learned that smoking masks many different issues. All is well on the Dune front, I have had a couple bumps here and there, but I am beginning to feel I am getting stronger in my quit lately. I hope that's the deeper issue...lol. Thanks for your concern....Besides this hole in the back of my mouth I feel great!!! Hey Stranger...I have been wondering how you were doing. Months ago a friend told me "smokers don't die with their teeth". Be so glad we are no longer addicted to that nasty cigs! There you are..... I was thinking about you the other day. Sorry to hear about the dentist -- it's about as much fun as pregnancy. Smoking is a leading reason for gum disease. Thankfully I am totally type A when it comes to rinses, flossing and brushing. I am a every six month patient. What you are doing is excellent for the health of your mouth. I know it really sucks having to deal with the pain of extraction and the cleaning, but you will be so happy when your smile is looking like a million bucks! And you will prevent any further damage. I hope you feel better soon and happy for you and your 113 days! Dune, At least you caught most of it in time :) Ask your dentist how to keep you teeth looking and feeling good after your clean. Good hygiene is a great way to reward yourself for quitting :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team
