i have now been off the patches for 22 days. its still a bit tricky at times but im still a none smoker. i am looking foreward to going out tonight for the celebrations i cannot wait for the new year to come in and i will be a none smoker already. somedays its still hard to deal with no cigarettes but i know i cannot have another. for me i think every day will be one day at a time. but so long as i stick to it and please assure me it will get better then whats the problem. happy new year to everyone..... up the none smokers............... Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Yes! Absolutely, one in particular. Enjoy your New Year's Eve celebrations but be aware (or beware) of the voice that tells you 'Go on - you can still have one because it's not the New Year yet - have a last one for old time's sake'. Remember that the addiction does not understand the concept of time. If you have a cigarette tonight, you will certainly want one tomorrow morning. cheers! Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 321 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,636 Amount Saved: 2407.5 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 13 Mins: 23 Seconds: 19

The hardest thing for me tonight is being around all the smoke. I can't hardly stand being close to it anymore. I know I will smell like an ashtray when I come home tonight. I look at smokers now like I'm sure non-smokers used to look at me.like "don't you have more sense than to kill yourself smoking?" I also look at them and think "boy I bet their breath stinks" or I thought she had more class than to smoke. All the things they used to think about me. I know I will definitly come home still a non-smoker. Bring on the New Year! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 673 Amount Saved: $79.2 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 13 Mins: 1 Seconds: 55

So correct, Mr. Ed. In learning about addiction, we learn that there is never "just one." Each fix we have puts us right back into withdrawals, which leads to another and another, if we let it. Any thought that directs us to smoke is not a thought that benefits us. The only way to beat this addiction is to never smoke another cigarette.
