imallclear, I had a similar experience in week two, but it was after a 2 hour interview (geez!!), first thing I wanted when I got in the car was a cig. It's great you recognized it as a trigger and not one of your weaknesses. Trigger's and weakness's are two different things. I also popped about 14 tic-tacs in my mouth that day, I had the freshest breath around. Great job!!!!! Penguin, I'm sorry to have just found your response. I am grateful for your contemplation and response. It's kinda like when somebody remembers my birthday later and I tell them "Don't worry, I'm gonna be this age all year". Hopefully I won't be at this stage of quit all year, but I'm still not far away. Thanks. Thanks also to Windy for giving me something to reach for. I can't believe that I forgot what that's like. I'm not festering away with craves right now. It's just kind of a lo-grade nag every once in a while. I'm just a little frustrated that I'm not charging ahead with a new life style. I'm just sitt'n here not smok'n. When I get ticked or emotionally offended, I'm just not smok'n. If I get harried and want to switch gears, I'm just not smok'n. If I have a particularly good event, I'm just not smok'n. These emotional waves are crashing over me and I don't want to be "just not smok'n". I would like to be assertive, confident, inclusive of others and engaged in healthy lifestyle alternatives. Instead I'm just not smok'n. It'll take time. I need to not rush it. At least I'm accomplishing the most important thing, the ingredient to all of the above - just not smok'n. It would help if I get that d--- patch on. Thanks all. Hi Cheermom, I'm haning in there. Feeling more like a kitten than a cat. I forgot my patch this morning - again. I have to ask myself if I'm self-sabatoging (sp?). I'm not smoking, but I haven't yet started replacing it with anything either. I'm just sitt'n here, not smoking, trying not to think about any whys or what nows. I think it will pass. I can't just put another patch on now unless I run out to the pharmacy and by a box. This weekend I just bought a new box, going down to 7mg. I work about an hour away from my home. I'll bring some patches to work, or maybe keep them in my purse. I don't forget that too often. Just completed several back-to-back, jam-packed meetings. Didn't realize what a trigger this was. Normally would have gone to "check my car" (had a smoke in the smoking designated area in the garage). Just typing about going to a garage to smoke feels stupid. Guess instead of feeling like a juvenile, I am really looking to switch gears. Just popped a mint gum and posted instead. You could go buy some lozenges and use those, or the gum, for the day. they aren't too expensive and I tell you, I know what it's like to self sabotage yourself. Been there and done that; keep doing it, too! So listen, go get a box of lozenges or the gum, carry them in your purse, put some in your car, put some in your desk at work, and then you will be able to use them in any situation. also, I strongly suggest that you look for a replacement activity, even if it's just a bottle of water, to do that hand to mouth habit. I find that if I keep doing that and breathing, I do better than just trying to "tough it out". Tootsie pops and blow pops (the ones with bubble gum in the center) do the best for me, but pen tops and straws to chew on help too. Feeling like a juvenile is probably because that's when we started smoking and a lot of our feelings and attitudes got stuck at that time in our lives, because we learned to use smokes instead of confronting our emotions. And I still think it's a lot of low self esteem that causes us to talk negatively to ourselves and that keeps us thinking we're not worth whatever it is we're trying to accomplish. Hi imallclear It's amazing how often we read posts and see ourselves. I remember being so discouraged - I was tired of living my life trying not to smoke and not "living" my life. I realized that I needed to be patient and understand that this would come with time. Often I don't even see the gains I've made. For years, my brother's family have invited us back to their place after ball games, hockey games etc. Since we were both smokers, we needed our fix after the games and almost always declined. Afew weeks ago, I watched both my nephews play hockey back to back without smokes. Last Friday, I worked late, stopped at my brother's home, had a couple glasses of wine and didn't get home until about 9:30. I've even had a couple "party" nights with friends. I'm not "cured" but it's great that I can start to "live" my life instead of being ruled by my addiction. - Wishing and knowing you will have many good days ahead!
