slip while drinking

for 17 år siden 0 10 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I had a slip last night too. Wasn't due to drinking though. My mother called, the walls came closing in, and I did it. The second I lit up, I felt like such a failure. My dog even looked at me like "stupid!" Stubborn, I have cleaned and cleaned and cleaned like a mad dog. Getting ready to drag my dog for a 1/2 mile hike. Have a lot of nervous energy. I'm not into exercise at all but I think it'll be good for me since I have been eating every thing in sight the last few days.

I have to agree with penitent here. Although I am only on day 6 of my quit I haven't given up a glass of wine or 2 in the evening . Far from make me want to smoke I find it relaxes me . I realise this is not the "normal' reaction to have BUT I believe everyone is different and so are their quits. What works for one person will not work for another but surely if the same end is achieved ie NOPE it is up to the individual?

My dog always looks at me like she thinks I'm stupid! Hang in there Kit, and let's get back on track today. My craving today has been higher than any since the first day or two so logging on here helps quite a bit. It's funny because I'm not a support group kind of person normally. Maybe I've just never needed one before. In any case I'll be avoiding alcohol for a while and will try to relax today now that the snow shovelling is done. Maybe I'll watch the golf tournamet on TV and cook myself a nice meal. What will you do to make yourself feel good about quitting today Kit? I hardly even remember my slip, but I can still taste the horrible thing this morning. I had a number of drinks and I guess it was just out of habit. Noone else around was smoking. And I only had a couple puffs and put it out. Back to the quit this morning with renewed vigilance since this bad taste is still with me. I don't know how I ever smoked those things all the time. I vowed I wouldn't do this, but when I saw my neighbour smoking this morning I thought, "what an idiot". He's not an idiot, of course. I am for allowing myself a puff when I was doing so well. Do I need to stop drinking as well? Thanks Katy, There was an old pkg in the workshop with a few in there. The rest are flushed. Lesson learned and moving on. Now out to shovel the snow. Exercise is good, but snow shovelling? Who invented that? Must have been the same person who invented smoking! Haha. Stubborn, at least you took a puff and did not like it or want to go back to smoking full time. I had the urge for "just one" last night but knew that I would regret it. Remember last nights experience the next time you have a crave. Shake yourself off and get back on the horse. Thanks for coming clean, stubborn. and good response, katy. it's always good to try to examine what causes us to fall so we can adjust future behaviors. sounds like you got a good handle on it. Have a really great day today back in the solidness of your quit. Hmmmm...Could I be a fence-sitter? I was pleasantly surprised to discover that alcohol was not a big trigger for me BUT excessive drinking is asking for trouble. I would have blown my quit after a night of drinking one too many martinis if not for my vigilant hubby who refused to give me a cigarette. I honestly had forgotten that I had even asked him for a smoke until he reminded me the next day. Excessive drinking = Stupidity which can easily lead to a slip and a tumble.... Stubborn, Some members find that moderating/ceasing their alcohol consumption is helpful until they are more comfortable in their quits has been helpful. Kit, Learn from this experience. Having cigarettes available is no longer necessary. You don't smoke anymore, get rid of them. Next, look at this trigger. How will you handle it next time? Have an alternative for yourself in place to keep you from reaching for a cigarette. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team
