OMG I am an addict

hi rainie: OMG how addicting the desire alone can be even when you are clean for a while! I had quit 12/25 but then went back and forth smoking, not smoking. I had two days of smoking and then asked God to help me to get rid of this addiction once and for all and today is my second day as a non smoker again and FOREVER! I feel such peace that only God can provide. I can't do it, I have to turn it over. I hope you are doing well also with your quit. I just thought of a cool saying- just for today- I won't blow it away. I don't want to have something have control over me. I want to be in complete control of my life and it feels good. God Bless. Hope you are doing great! I like that too NIDS! Great to hear that you too use the power available to us all and God is Good! I smoked sometimes when I didn't even feel like it at all. I did not enjoy not one of them. Why I chose to buy them and smoke them is beyond me really. I just did not like the thought of never again I think. But now I want to not ever go back. Thank God! I'm totally an addict and the cravings are still there. I don't want a cigerette per se, but my body feels like its going to turn inside out at times from want of the drug itself...i suddenly have more sympathy for junkies I can tell you. The motto a friend of mine gave when he hit his 7 months mark of not smoking was "that it is easier to stay quit, then to quit again". I tend to think of that phrase anytime my body starts doing its little bizarro dance. Rainie, Let this realization strengthen your resolve. You can continue to feed into your addiction or you can beat it and be free! Thanks for sharing your AH HA moment with us. Anybody else want to share their AH HA moments? Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

I know the feeling exactly. As a recovering alcohlic, and seeing additcts at my meetings I never thought of myself as an addict. Then began my journey to quit smoking. I would try and fail, then someone at my meeting told me I was an addict. OMG I was so offended. Me an addict? No way. Those word stuck and everytime I smoked I could hear "you are an addict." Happliy today I can say I am addict and I am smoke free today :) There are so many things we learn as we walk this road of life. Keep the quit. Hi Rainie - It's also an amazing blessing of an opportunity to learn more about yourself, and to take a journey of a lifetime - one of - well, just so much self-discovery - an Awakening... Sadness may be part of it - and there is also so much more. Cassie, I too have turned to God and asked for strength to get me through. Ya know what? He has answered my much cherished prayer. I asked for a good attitude and peacefulness. God is great!!! When you were doing the back and forth thing for those couple of days...did you really sit back and notice...the times you chose not to smoke...didn't you sort of feel great? Thats your glimpse of the freedom to not smoke. NIDS to you! NIDS=No I Don't Smoke!!! Those of you that know a little about me know that I have really tried to prepare myself mentally for this new life of mine. Yes, I have read some very informative information on the addition to nicotine. But I just had my first visual of myself as an addict. I just finished reading something that really wacked it into my reality. I am so taken aback I am shocked. I guess this is one of those AH HA moments in life. I am a drug addict. That is just so sad My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hi Rainie, I know, huh? Quite a realization. I remember when they used to pawn smoking off as a "bad habit"...even on quit smoking commericials on TV "KICK the HABIT". Now, for the first time in history, I believe, I witnessed a commercial encouraging people to quit smoking. They actually used the phrase "nicotine addiciton" 2 or 3 times. The nasty beast is going to be exposed for what he is..a horrible addiction! My thoughts are with you today. I noticed your meter is on 0..are you smoke free today or starting tommorrow? Well, glad you are prepared for "withdrawals", because us addicts do have to go through withdrawal. I know that you have read about it; sleeplessness, dizziness, crying, wanting, craving, inability to concentrate. Use the coping techniques you learned here at scc...distract, avoid, delay. You will do great because you are prepared. my best to you today!
