Hello, my buddy....you wonderful, awesome, talented, strong, kind, loving, funny, determined, enlightend, fabulous, beautiful....ok you've got the idea now....I'm giddy with sleep deprivation. Please post a new update today or tomorrow! People everywhere, including but not limited to your shipmates, want to know how happy you are, if there are any closets left in your house to clean and how/where you're kicking more of that nasty ash. Is your Mr. Wonderful home tomorrow night???? You planning a special dinner???? You can always invite Phil, he already noticed. Where is Phil....did he get upset because we teased him? Sorry Phil, I'll retract every word if only you'll keep your eye on Rainie. Been thinking about you....miss you....looking forward to hearing from you when you're rested up. :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I had this same realization after doing some reading right here on this site. It's amazing to me now that I had been partaking of this particular substance (nicotine) for THIRTY YEARS and never really knew that much about it. Nicotine has the chemical formula C10H14N2, and the systematic name 3-(1-methyl-2 pyrrolidyl) pyridine. It is an alkaloid. It is a stimulant. It is a drug. Yes, it is a drug and it is highly addictive. Therefore, I was a drug addict, and will always be a recovering addict. I can see now what a slave I was to my addiction. It's quite sad, actually. Rainie, you're doing great! With your great attitude you'll sail through the hard parts. We can do this! Hi Rainie, We are all addicts. Like it or not thats why we are here, it's a good place to be with plenty of help and support. And it is one day at a time. We are all behind you. jnine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 17 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 349 Amount Saved: $46.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 6 Mins: 54 Seconds: 22

Rainie - The first time I realized that I was an addict, I thought it was pathetic, too. But you know what, it's what drives me now. During my first few quits, addiction never crossed my mind and after a while you think that you can have just one, then two, and three. Then it starts again. That's our addiciton. Now, this is what I think everytime I think I want to smoke: I think that if I take just one puff, for whatever lame reason that my pea-brain can come up with, I will be at a pack or two a day in less than a few days. ...at that point, I'll decide to smoke the rest of my life, which should be over real soon because I will probaby die of a smoking-related heart attack or stroke in the next few years. ...then I think that even if I survive the heart attack or stroke, I'll be dragging an oxygen tank around with me the rest of my miserable life. That's why I don't smoke. Because I'm an addict and that's where one more puff will take me. Peace. -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 894 Amount Saved: $170.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 5 Mins: 53 Seconds: 1

Rainie: I understand completely! I had the idential AH HA moment and it was frightening! Me? A drug addict??!! I don't THINK so!! But you know what? FINALLY understanding the truth of that statement is the most important element of keeping me quit. Without that particular AH HA moment, I'm certain I would have caved already. That understanding will carry you very far (once you get past the initial shock of it). You'll do great. How is day one going so far? This IS day one for you, isn't it? Keep the faith -- and your brand-new baby quit My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 109 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,387 Amount Saved: $872 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 8 Mins: 14 Seconds: 42

Rainie, I too am an addict. A recovering one, but a nicotine addict none the less. And they say nicotine ranks right up there with some of the "illegal" heavies. The withdrawal process isn't easy, but its worth it. So you can imagine how elated we feel for each day we don't smoke. So as a recovering nicotine addict, I try to reward myself, be nice to myself, give myself "relax" time when I need it, order out the odd meal when I don't feel like cooking. In other words, do what takes to get through. Before long, not smoking will feel normal to us. Congrats on quitting, Rainie.
