Everything I've ever read or heard says that most of these meds can take anywhere from a week to 8 weeks to start working. Its different for everybody I guess. Just give them time. Seeing a counselor might be a good idea though. I think the more help/support you have, the better chance you have for a full recovery. Keep us posted.

Thanks All! I have been feeling alot better since Monday. I had my doctors appointment today and she wants to up the dose of Paxil from 12.5 to 25mg. I hope this will be better. I know that I haven't been eating that great and have lost alot of wait so she wants me to get some blood work done. Yay, another terrifying doctors visit. hahaha! Anyways, today especially I am feeling much better. I hope that the extra dose will make me feel even better. Thanks for all of your thoughts. I am also planning on booking a session with a counsellor who specializes in this I think I may wait for a week or so to see how these more meds go.

Thank you Pamela for the post about the Paxil. I have noticed a difference already. In fact, today I woke up feeling great for the first time in a week. Normally I'm very anxious in the morning and fine in the evenings....today just started out great. I'm still on the 12.5mg. Doc gave me samples but wrote my prescription for the 25mg. I will start taking those this weekend. I've also started seeing someone who specializes in CBT. My 2nd appt. is tomorrow. I'm so happy to hear that you and your husband are doing good. I've said it before...I really like hearing that other people's treatment is successful. It gives the rest of hope.

My husband is currently taking Paxil CR. He was taking 12.5 mgs for a couple of months and his doctor just increased it to 25mgs. He also noticed a difference in just 2 days. He hasn't had any side effects just a little more tired then normal which the doctor says is normal for the first couple of weeks until your body adjusts to the medication. I'm currently taking 100mgs of zoloft( what can I say were just an anxious couple)and I haven't had any side effects, I think in the very beginning it did make me a little more anxious , but at the time I really didn't understand anything about panic and anxiety so I just thought I was going crazy. But now that I look back I can see that the zoloft probably did make my symptoms worse for awhile. I didn't feel like myself again until my doctor had increased my dose to 100 mgs and I had been on the higher dose for several weeks. Everything has finally been kicking in and I've been feeling wonderful the past two weeks. I also am seeing a psychologist to receive CBT. It has been very helpful also. I would be glad to answer any questions you may have (amy I think asked about CBT) I can be reached directly through my e-mail gph1987@comcast.net Hope to hear from you soon!

Hello Amy! I have taken Paxil. Unfortunately, I had too many side effects. I only took it for a few days. I now take zoloft and it is in the same class as Paxil. I had heightened anxiety for the 1st 2 weeks on zoloft then it diminished. I was also like you....I didn't want to be left alone for fear of what the med. you do - that feeling also passed. Hang in there! If that is the only side effect you have, then chances are you'll be o.k. in a week or so and Paxil will be a good choice for you. Maybe a small dose of a benzodiazepam would help you out during this initial phase. Try not to worry about it since that will make you worse. Try to concentrate on your son and how much he needs you. Good Luck. Keep posting so we know how you are doing. ;p

Hi, I started taking Paxil CR a week ago and I finding that I am more anxious than ever. I am assuming that it is because I am on this medication. Has anyone else experienced this. I have had panic disorder for over 10 years and never wanted to try anti depressants. The past couple years has been really good and then about a month ago my panic attacks came back and worse than ever. So I went to the doctor and I am on 12.5 mg of Paxil CR. I am not sure if this is just my mind playing silly tricks on me or if I am feeling this way because of it. I don't want to be left alone and don't trust myself to be left with my 11 month old son. My husband is being very supportive but I just feel like I should have never gone on these. I know they say they can take a while to work but how long?? Any advice/input is greatly appreciated. Thanks! I am also thinking of going to do some CBT with a counsellor. Does anyone have any info about that? Thanks, Amy

I use to read every little detail about a med before I took it too and if there was a side effect I also imagined it was going to happen to me. I try not to do that anymore. I I did read on a website about Paxil CR (had to take a little bitty peek :) ) and I understand that if I go off of it I will have to do it gradually. Since I'm only taking 12.5 mg and in 2 days I can feel a difference, I'm just going to continue taking it and face the withdrawl situation later. Right now my focus is on getting my anxitey under control and doing the Cognitive Behavior Therapy. My counselor says he's had a great success rate with it so I know there is hope for me and everyone else in here as well. WE WILL BEAT THIS THING AND TAKE CONTROL OF OUR LIVES AGAIN.

I know! Isn't it strange? I never read the side effects of meds anymore because if I did, I'd have every one of them! My doc and pharmacist both tell me if there's something really important to watch for, and I know the signs of an allergic reaction, so I'm good!

Meds definelty do different things for different people. I was just trying to see if there was anything I needed to worry about...of course if I hear bad things about it I might just imagine they are going to happen to me. So maybe I should just take it and see what happens on my own...lol It kills me the way this disorder makes our minds work!! Thanks for responding Serranian! Hope you are doing well.

From what I hear, SSRIs can often cause heightened anxiety for the first few weeks until they "kick in." I didn't feel slow or dopey on the Paxil CR, but then again, meds effect everyone differently!
