HI TRYING, I AM ONE OF THOSE SMOKERS THAT QUIT FOR OVER 30 YEARS ALSO!! THREE YEARS AGO I STARTED UP AGAIN AND I REMEMBER THE EXACT DAY, TIME AND WHY I DID IT. IT HAS HELPED WITH THE STRESS THAT I WAS GOING THROUGH BUT NOW I HAVE QUIT AGAIN VERY RECENTLY. IT IS A REAL STRUGGLE. FOR ME IT WAS LIKE THROWING AWAY AN OLD FRIEND OF MINE NAMED NICK!!! I AL ALSO SURPRISED AT SOME OF THE POSTS HAVE SO MANY DAYS RACKED UP FOR THEM AND THEN HAVE THE MISFORTUNE TO HAVE A RELAPSE. FORTUNATELY THEY GET UP, ADMIT THEY DID WRONG AND START ANOTHER DAY WITH THE WONDERFUL SUPPORT THAT YOU WILL GET FROM THIS SITE. TAKE IT ALL IN!!! THEY HAVE HELPED ME A LOT AND WILL HELP YOU TOO IF YOU JUST LET THEM. GOOD LUCK

Ramblings on day 10 and i am trying to come to terms with all this positive support it seems like false hope i read the posts of those who have quit for a long time, years and they start again. it seems hopeless. and seems like this has to be a solitary journey. who can, after all, come with you inside your mind to fight the lonliness to fight the feeling, even though it is false, that a smoke makes it better, it doesn't but for me it made it go away for a brief moment. it always came back whatever it was and i do embrace one is never enough. anyway my not very eloquent ramblings on a solitary journey, we can show slides of the trip but no one can ever really go with us. ps hold off on the marching band and parade i have years to go before i'm a non smoker. Dear trying, You really are doing so very well in your quit hon. It's not easy .. I know. I've been one of those re quitters for many reasons and I'll tell you, not one reason is good enough because it simply doesn't change ONE thing by lighting up. You, btw, are supposed to come here to ramble, to vent, to rant.. we're here. It can be a lonely journey but what I've learned - and learned it the hard way, is that there are people here who will respond to you if you post here, use the IM or if you have their email. Do you have a quit buddy? You've gone through hell week and you should be so very proud of yourself! I'm proud of you :) You know there are people who slip -- it's sometimes just part of the process and everyone's quit is as individual as the person who is quitting. There are marvelous, uplifting and successful quitters here. They have beat the nicodemon and they are the one's who pick up the people who slip and encourage them to move forward and start again. There is much wisdom on these pages of posts and I do hope that you read as many as you can. Once again... Be proud of what you've achieved thus far! Reward yourself hon, because you so deserve it :) Wishing you all the very best, try to stay positive, and stay in touch.. We're here. trying, Quitting can seem like a very lonely experience, but it doesn't have to be. We are ALL here to help you and to travel this road with you. Sure, we can't do it FOR you... you've got to do that, but you're definitely not alone. We are here with you to help the journey seem less lonely. As for those who quit for years and start up again, well quitting is always a choice. Everyday that we wake up, we choose whether we will be smoke free or whether we will imprison ourselves to cigarettes. Everyday. Whether you haven't chosen to have a cigarette in 10 years, the choice still needs to be made. But the good news is that as time goes on, the decision gets easier and easier to make. Sure, there are those who quit for many years and start up again, but YOU don't have to be one of them. YOU make a choice to be smoke free. Hold on to the knowledge that every craving DOES pass, and even if one comes later on, just know that everyday, you're closer and closer to never feeling this way ever again. Just remember that. It doesn't last forever. I'm one that has slipped several times since I began this journey in June of 2005, and is now comfortably at over a year without a smoke at all and I couldn't imagine ever having another one! I promise you hun, it DOES get easier! Just hold on to that knowledge. You're doing great. Don't forget to reward yourself for all of your hard work. Crave the Quit! Dear trying - What about changing your name to *doing*... in KS :) You willing to own your power and commit to this quit? Trying won't work... but I can promise you that this CAN BE DONE... I want to share with you that never could I have done my quit alone. Never. I have a no-slip (yes they really do exist) - first time forever quit going here, and it is due to this site, those who went before me and who took the time to share their stories, their journeys, their challenges and their smiles with those behind them... Those amazing individuals become mentors, friends - the Light they shine leads the way to a forever Quit IF you are ready, prepared, commited, open, present... If you're not ready, it won't happen, If you aren't willing to take someone's hand when it's dark and you can't find your way, chances are a forever quit won't happen. If you are ready... well it can happen. I found Lady's and Shevie's posts incredibly powerful when I found this site. Shevie's wisdom and gentle compassion was a bright, healing Light that led me back to me - and to my forever Quit. Lady has a way of just saying it like it is and leading the way with her strength and wisdom. She breaks it down to doable steps, no matter what the challenge is and she stays with you - one step at a time. Where in the world can we all find love and support like this?? YOU find a quitter here who touches your soul - who speaks to you and you follow their lead... There are many... Cobenfan is amazing and has a way w/words - simple and to the point. Mr. Ed is powerful - supportive and one patience talking horse! Sunshine is gentle, compassionate and loving - her heart is like the sun... ItsIronic is a gentle soul with amazing tenacity, as she guides with wisdom and a gentle hand... Do a search for PrincessC - she is a loving guide... a good friend and she will speak to you if what you need is a quiet yet powerful wise guide to lead the way. Find YOUR way but I ask you - be open to support... I don't believe that most of us would be here if we had tried to make this journey alone... I know I wouldn't be here... NO way... Use this place for venting, for guidance, for crying for bleeding when your heart hurts, my friend... Just be here and quietly read on

trying you are very early in your quit. Quitting smoking is making a choice not to smoke anymore. Each day we make that choice and as the days go by, that choice is easier to make. The emotions and life events that happen along the way are what I believe lead people back to smoking again. You must remember that we are all addicts who are addicted to Nicotine. That really put the quitting thing in perspective for me. In a way, you are also correct when you say this is a journey we go on alone. I didn't realize it when I quit but this has turned into the journey of a lifetime. A journey of self-discovery and self-improvement. However, there are also many along here that will share the journey with you and offer you suggestions and guidence along the way. Quitting is the hardest thing I have ever done but was worth every miserable second of it. Beleive me when I tell you I have not had an easy quit. I fought for my quit and it is precious to me. There have been times that I have considered giving in to the addiction again but haven't acted on those thoughts. Those thoughts are nothing like you are going through now. You are learning how to live your life smoke free. No easy task. You will get there. At this stage of your quit, I would focus on today. Forever is much too hard of a concept to grasp at this point. Quit for today and let tomorrow take care of itself. When you are ready to think of the quit in longer terms, you will feel so much better about it. Give yourself a chance and don't listen to that junkie thinking that is going on inside of you right now. That is all it is... Junkie thinking. Hang on tight. This is quite a ride.
