How can I quit when family does not support?

for 18 år siden 0 3307 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
hi, Chrissy. Welcome to the site. I am not sure if you have taken the the time to look at the information on the left. The quit program tools? If not look at them and read and read. I have tried many times to quit and this time it seems to be working. Smoking is an addition. It will do anything to draw you back for a smoke. I just finished reading Allen Carrs' book on the easy way to quit smoking. In there he talks about nonsmokers don't smoke when there is stress. Think about it. This addiction has worked it's magic on us, making us believe we need a smoke when we are stressed. We smoke because we are additcted. I don't know if you are thinking about NRT or pills or cold trukey. Whatever you do don't give up on quiting, okay? You are always welcomed here. Prepare for your quit. While you may not like my answers.... simply put, you need to learn to live life without cigarettes - stressed out, celebrating and everything in-between. Your life is still yours, you just don't smoke. You have much more time for enjoying things. When you decide you want to quit more than you want to smoke, you will. Nothing is going to "help" you quit, your family is still going to be there everyday. This is ALL your responsibility..... it's your quit. Don't wait for others behavior to be good, no excuses. Hello and Welcome Chrissy!! I know exactly what you are going through!! (Except for the 15 year old part!!) But, the responses you received are truely insightful!! As they mentioned, we have all been there, and felt the discouragement that you are feeling right now. But, there is nothing that can fix that except you. You have to be willing to take a stand for your life!! You will definately have some hard times, very hard times.... but they will happen whether you are smoking or not. The fights of a teenager will come and go. I remember being that age, and causing problems just like that....... Most teenagers are that way ~ it's their job!!! When it gets too much, walk away. I sometimes have to lock myself in the bathroom. It's the only peaceful place sometimes. I enjoy listening to music, so I put headphones on and just chill out. I can only get a few minutes, and they are not every day, so I relish the time that I have peace........ Do this for you. Find your peace. Make it work!! We are here every step of the way for you!!! Just reach out to us!!! 4my2girls My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 308 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,261 Amount Saved: $1007.16 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 20 Mins: 12 Seconds: 15

Chrissy. It doesn't matter who supports you and who doesn't. A lot of quitters come here for support because others simply do not understand what we go through. You can use these boards as well. The only way to quit smoking is not to smoke. Each time you smoke, you are putting nicotine back into your system and starting the process all over again. When you say you have only had 4 cigarettes today, then that probably means that you have been in constant withdrawal all day. Get through five minutes at a time. Drink plenty of water and take a lot of deep breaths. Quitting isn't easy but you can do it. No matter what, you do not light that next cigarette. Get rid of all cigarettes, lighters, ash trays, all of it. Let others argue if that is what they choose to do. Your husband and daughter can work out their issues for themselves. Refuse to fall into the traps and use them as excuses to keep smoking. I will answer you in a similar way to how I answered Kimmy Lou who is early in her journey too. Remember that this is YOUR quit and noone elses. You can depend on NO ONE for support. Forgive your family - they are not the problem. We addicts will find any way to justify continuing to smoke. If those around us do not create a crisis, we will create one ourselves. That is what addicts do. They lie to themselves and to everyone around them. Back to YOU. Forget whether they are fighting or not. This must be a very personal decision between you and you. You must decide that you love yourself enough to give yourself this greatest gift. You must decide that you want it bad enough to go through all the horridness of withdrawal. You have to decide that you want to live more than you want your next fix. You have to decide that you are an addict, and understand what withdrawal entails. You must decide that no matter WHAT life throws your way, you will choose another option other than smoking. You have to believe those of us who went before you that this is possible, that success is doable, that ANYONE can do it if they just don't smoke. Ending conflict and returning to temporary emotional sanity is what ruined my quits for TWENTY FIVE years!!! Until I realized that I wanted it bad enough. Wow, what an awesome series of posts you've received....everyone of them supporting YOU. In a nutshell, YOU have to become the most important person to YOU right now. Believe me, that each of us understands the trials and tribulations of quitting smoking. We all have or had people around us who did not share our goal or best interest. So what? If we don't care about ourselves, we can't expect others to care either. It's not easy. But it IS as easy as never lighting another cigarette. Get them out of your house. Get any ashtrays, lighters or old butts out of your house. Tell your family what you are doing and ask for their support. If they can't do that, push through anyway. Apologize for any words you might say in anger or in frustration, but do not smoke. You can do it. It can be done. We will help you.
