I think it is really important that you find out the reason she is removing her child from your care. Regardless of whether it is difficult to bring up, this is CRUCIAL information for you to have. In your line of work, you need this kind of feedback from parents. If it is the smoking, I agree that explaining that you have never smoked around the children is also vital information for her to have. Good luck!
Now...about your quit. I have to say.....if this woman is one of the main reasons to be quit, you are not very likely to succeed. I thought this..then didn't want to say this, then decided maybe you needed to hear it. Your quit being dependent on ANYONE else's behavior does not bode well for success.
This decision to quit smoking is not a light commitment. Quitting may be one of the hardest things you have ever done in your life. (It was for me, anyway) I lost, for awhile, my emotional equilibrium and my positive outlook on life. To be successful, you have to want it for YOU. You have to understand that you are an addict. You have to understand what withdrawal will entail. You have to want to be free of nicotine with ever fiber of your being. You have to HATE your addiction. You have to believe you are worth giving yourself this greatest gift. You have to want freedom more than you want your next fix. You have to develop the strength to choose life over slavery.
If you decide that that is where you are at, prepare well. Do the tools on this sight. Arm yourself with information, a reward schedule and a coping plan. Hang on tight for a wild ride, but know also that there are loads of folks here who will understand and support you ever step of the way.
