I used to have many smoking friends. However, I moved a year ago. Nobody where I am now at smoked, so I used to try to hide my smoking from them. Then I became courageous and started smoking in front of them. I actually began losing some friends because I SMOKED. One girl even straight out said to me "we can't be friends if you smoke"... my point is, the roles can and are reversed for the opposite situation as well. Smoking is a divide in our culture. Often, smokers hang with smokers and non-smokers hang with non-smokers. Of course this is not always true, but often is. This is an unfortunate situation, but I am not one that can change it... I saved a friendship by quitting smoking, and possibly my whole relationship with my g/f as well. So why not just realize that you can't change other people, or this ridiculous way of our culture, and go find some non-smoking friends. Just as in sig others, the saying goes for friends as well....."there are more fish in the sea, but some fish smell better than others"
