I dunno...I just feel like the 5th wheel now....I feel like the very last person, standing on the field, waiting to be picked to play kickball....and no one wants me.... *sigh* My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 212 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,189 Amount Saved: $636 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 4 Mins: 38 Seconds: 22

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Duckie - I admit...I was one of those horribly, jealous smokers who frequently chose my addiction ahead of spending time with the people that I cared about. I could handle short outings but I dreaded whole weekends because I could never get enough nicotine into my system to satisfy. Unfortunately, as more and more friends chose to quit, I started spending more and more time sitting by myself with my cigarettes. I don't think I'm a bad person or a bad friend but I was an addict and that addiction controlled me. Hopefully your friends will come around. You are doing such an awesome job! Hi Duckie, I have to say that smokers act strange if a friend quits. I had a best friend and neighbour, she and I used to spent every night together and watch tv and smoke. Then I quit and she didn't like that at all. She offered me smokes and said: Oh come on, one cannot hurt. After a while I didn't go there anymore because I didn't want to sit in her smoke all the time. She smoked even more when I was with her. I realized that our friendship was based on cigarets. Sad but true. So you can say that smokers are jealous on people who can quit. They are confronted with their own weakness and that is why they don't want to talk about it. Just say nothing and it will pass my door is their opinion. That is because they see that you have done the job and they can't. So, that's my 2 cents ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 383 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,491 Amount Saved: 1129.85 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 7 Mins: 6 Seconds: 13

Hi Duckie!!!!!! Several of my (smoking) friends are the same way. In fact, one of my BEST friends, if I asked her for a smoke, would be DELIGHTED in assisting me in falling off of the wagon!!! What a friend!(?) She tells me I've changed since I quit---no duh...... By quitting smoking we remind our smoking buddies of their own need to quit and the health risks. They are jealous of our quit. They have lost someone to 'share' their misery with. They view us as 'no more fun'...because we don't have to be outside in the freezing temperatures or sweltering heat to have a fix. Boy was that 'fun'!(?) Lookin' mighty good there with 209+ days!!!! So good to hear from you also! Hi Duckie congrats on your stats. Here's my 2 cents worth, addicted people feel threatened, lord knows I did, I feared going to a non-smoker's house as I would have to go outside to smoke. It's true that when we smoked, we spent more time with our smoker friends and now that we don't smoke, I guess they miss us. I have a best friend who used to come chat with me at least once a week, we would talk and smoke and have coffee, well she doesn't do it anymore, she's an addict, she sees no fun with sitting without smoking, I understand it, I know she's still my best friend, she just chooses to call me now and she smokes, I can hear her LOL. So things just fall into place after a while. I love my non-smoking life and I have plenty of fun without the smokes. Hope this helps. Duckie, I'm so sorry to hear about your difficulties with your friends. I guess it's times like these that you really learn who your friends are. Unfortunately, I had to learn the same way. My best friend and roommate at the time I quit couldn't STAND that I quit smoking! She called me a "fat cow" despite the fact that she weighed nearly twice as much as me when I quit. We got into many fights and now, we do not speak and are not friends at all. So yes, I can relate. I think she was jealous that I quit and wanted her "smoking buddy" back again. But whatever you do, don't let this come between you and your quit. If they were really your good friends, they would stick by you no matter what and support your quit. And who's to say that if you gave up your quit, that they would be your friends again? Don't waste your time on people who can't accept you for who you are... and that includes your quit. Congrats on 200+ days! Crave the Quit! Duckie - Perhaps those smoking buds are uncomfortable by your quitting - it may be subconsciously putting pressure on them that they should quit. Also, maybe they feel awkward about smoking around you now. Just my 2 cents.
