Stubborn, After 71 days of not smoking it's about time to THINK as a non smoker. You still think as a smoker, that's why you feel bad. Quitting smoking is a good thing, not a bad thing. It's all positive and you should feel great by now. A cigaret is nothing but a whole lot of poison and nothing else. And for old Nic..... He or she doesn't exist. It's all in the mind. Whoa Serenity, that's it!!! What a post!! Here I am on Day 44 now and I didn't realize that I'm now having a hard time learning how to do more things without a cigarette in tow. I thought I was wanting to smoke. Girl, you're right. I'm having to learn how to do so many things without smoking. I have to write that one down. Phew!! I think a lot of us are getting the desire to smoke mixed up with having to learn how to do those things without smoking. Great Post!! Or you can use that anger to your advantage, but point it at the craving, external not internal. Look that craving /trigger in the face and tell it. I am bigger than this, You will NOT defeat me! I am the one who calls the shots, not a little cigarette! I will succeed. Try it, It can be very empowering. Once in awhile it does feel good to yell at the Nicodemon, (Make sure it s him though & Not your family) The other thing I try to get through my head during a craving is Okay, rant away all you want Nick, cause smoking is not an option, so it isn't going to do you any good. It loses its power over you! Your quit can be as hard as you want to make it, if you're too focused on how awful it is, thats what you'll see. Oh guys. I hear you. Here I am at 114 dyas!!!! I really cannot believe it. But I have been where you are too. The pain is clear in my brain and my heart. I had angst, hurt, tears, anger and no posisitves in sight. And all the "think positive" in the world did not help me. I was down and I wanted to rage. And my God, rage I did. Then something happened. Somewhere around the 100 days, something changed, another change, another progression and it all felt way easier again. How simple, compared to those days of angst. You keep on putting one foot in front of the other. There are many things to be faced, many challenges - both major and minor, to be dealt with, learned from and about, and fought through if need be. But it isn't about smoking. It's about dealing with all of those WITHOUT smoking, because that's what you wanted to do. Learn to live life as a non-smoker. Hang on, by the skin of your teeth or your bleeding finger nails if need be and remind yourselves the "pain" is NOT screaming "have a smoke". It is screaming "here is one more thing for you to learn to deal with on this new path as a non smoker". Over the weekend, I had some quite strong craves again and couldn't figure out why. And then realised, I spent the weekend decorating. First time smoke free. In the past, I would have spent the weekend painting, then going out resting with a smoke, then back in painting, then back out for a smoke. One more "new" step to take. One more thing to do as the non-smoking me. It will come. Have faith. Remind yourself this isn't about whether or not to smoke. You decided 60 or 70 or whatever it was days ago, you don't want to DO that. It's about learning the new you and until you are secure in that, putting one foot in front of the other until an easier moment/hour/day comes along. Thinking about you. My heart goes out to you. I know exactly how you feel. Today has been the worst so far. Pain and tears. I keep hoping for a break in the clouds so to speak. Just a hint that this is worth it. Yes I hear everyone saying that it is so worth it and my sensible, logical self says "yes,I know" but it doesn't help. Instead of getting better it's getting worse.I am hanging on for dear life. My head says "be strong" my heart says "have a cigarette and you will be happy again" Yes it's taking over my life. It's an obsession. I think about it all the time. I am sooooooootired of it all. My neck is so stiff and sore I could scream. Why then would I want to keep going? Not sure. Maybe it's because I have suffered so much for this quit. If I give up now, then that's been a total waste. Besides I would have to accept that the house would stink up again. I would stink of smoke. I would be constantly thinking about when and where I could get my next hit. I would have to budget for the cost. I would have to admit to friends and family that I failed AGAIN!! I don't want to go through hell or heck week or any more withdrawal time. I WANT TO BE FREE!!!!!!! So there you are. Does it help to know that there are lots of us in this boat? It must get better. Thousands have gone through the pain barrier. Stubborn - My first question is: Have you felt like this for the whole quit or did it just start recently? If you have felt this way for 71 days...its time to have a chat with your doctor. We have good days and bad days but noone should have to endure 71 bad days. If you have just started to feel this way...you are probably going through a phase. Sometimes the excitement wears off and the pressure builds up and life gets abit more difficult. We wonder if smoking would make us feel better. It won't! If it's a phase, ride the wave and know that better days are ahead. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better. Exercise some more, shake up your routine a little and get out there a reward yourself (Make it a good one!) How can lighting up a little stick full of chemicals actually make our lives better? It really doesn't make sense. Keep on quitting.......You can do this. Boy do I know what you mean. I'm here at 65 days, had one cig because the world just crashed onto me and I couldn't hold it up anymore. But all things considered, you're only a few days ahead of me. Sometimes I think it's not worth it too. More so since my ex husband just died and he wasn't a smoker at all. It affected me, more than if he had been a smoker. Then my current husband reminds me of why I quit to begin with. I could no longer breathe. Oh yes, that was it! I knew there was a reason why I quit. Back on the subject. It looks to me that the craves come in waves. Strong, stronger, stronger, disorientation, irritability (I'm really irritable right now) confusion, lethargy, followed to a bubble of euphoria, and a let down. Then it starts again. Like a pendulum swinging. The swings should start getting further and further apart. I keep waiting.
