Lou, That's great! We do recommend you wait the full seven days before quitting but you can keep practicing not smoking and start implementing new routines and habits in its place. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Good for you Lou! I'm also using Chantix - my vote is to keep your quit date for the 18th, that way the Chantix is in your system for a week. My experience has been that Chantix is soooooo helpful! By the end of my first week on it, my cigarettes really didn't "satisfy me" like they used to & they even tasted kinda bad. And listen to freemom - use this time to work on the mental prep! I'm very excited for you! Keep us updated! Lou - sounds like the Chantix is starting to work it's magic. It does make the physical withdrawal much easier - though I'd advise you to give it a few more days to really kick in. BUT ... you still have to deal with all the mental/emotional stuff to succeed for the long haul. That happens over time. But the more prepared you are, the better. Good luck! And remember to take the Chantix after eating and with a glass of water - it'll minimize queasiness. Hey Lou, That's great! It sounds like you're onthe right track. My husband and I are also taking Chantix. We did take the full seven day course before we quit smoking. On day 8, No more ciggies. During the last few days before I quit, it seemed like the smokes just weren't giving the same gratification. Silly me....i smoked more than i normally would those last couple of days. I've heard that lots of others started smoking less and tapered off. I think that's probably better. Maybe less withdrawal symptoms? I'm not sure. Keep us posted and start preparing for the day. Hang around here and you'll get lots of suggestions to help you prepare. I threw away all smoking articles in my house and car...ashtrays, etc. I bought lots of gum and sugar free candy to help make it through the first few days. Hey all... I am new here and have been posting mainly in the introduction section.. BUT, wanted to share this... I started Chantix 2 days ago and have set my quit date as April 18th.. BUT, I went out earlier to smoke with my boyfriend and when I lit it up it tasted AWFUL! SO, just now he went outside, usually I go out with him at this point because it is bedtime.. But I didn't go!!!! YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! Maybe I can quit before my quit date? Maybe?

Thank you Mike.. you are right once I get through this April 18, 2007 will be a day to remember. I have only had a couple of pretty tough cravings today.. Now, I have to say that the random thoughts of smoking have been there all day... So, I keep telling myself, "You are a non-smoker now". Seems to work pretty well. I have used sugar free gum and have drank lots and lots of water today. The kids and I took a walk this afternoon, nearly a mile.. That isn't to bad considering I haven't taken walks or really exercised in a while.. I realized today that I can do this.. it won't be a walk in the park.. but I can do it. Thanks to all of you for the support.. this site is great. I am so glad to be here because I know this site will be lots of help in this journey I am taking.. Thank you all so very much! Lou P Lou, I'm really happy for you. I'm a week in to my quit with Chantix and besides some psychological/mental craves, the worst being 5-6 out of 10 and of short duration and tons of random thoughts about smoking (no surprise there, I did it 20 times a day), I'm happy and doing great. In other words, this quit has NOT been hell. It's been a bit hard here and there. But the overwhelming sense of relief I feel that I'm no longer poisoning/killing myself, the sense of accomplishment and personal power I have, the happiness I'm giving to my wife, daughter and all those that care about me, I don't stink anymore, I've discarded a compulsion, an addiction, it's all really priceless! When you see this through, you'll remember April 18, 2007 as one of the best, most important days of your life. Lou - You'll do great. Remember to have lots of water, gum, licorice, sucking candies or whatever you think will work for you. And post if you need support.
