I would have to re-think this particular favor to your fellow quitters. My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/29/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 102 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,027 Amount Saved: $510 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 17 Mins: 53 Seconds: 2

Hi Moqueen, from personal experience yes cigars are a bad thing to do ! I had thought that a cigar isn't a cigarette I can have one and everything will be cool. NOT ! I lost three quits with the old "one cigar" thought, so I would not recommend them at all. Moqueen Yes just as bad and a very very dangerous thing to do...Never forget that we are addicts and the possiblility of relapse is always there...In any case cigars, pipes and any other form of smoking is very bad news for the body and the act of smoking these things is dangerous to the mental discipline we have developed during our struggle to quit...My advice get rid of the cigars at the next possible opportunity... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 104 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,509 Amount Saved: $728 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 10 Mins: 17 Seconds: 29

Hi - Cigars are exactly how I lost my last quit a few years back. I didn't know any better. I started to smoke cigars after not smoking cigarettes for three months. At five months. I was back to being a full-time smoker. Yes, cigars are as bad... in fact, they are worse! They contain something like 10 times the amount of nicotine or something like that and it's been shown that while cigar smokers SAY they don't inhale, it's been shown that they actually still do inhale small amounts. And the nicotine still gets into their systems through their mouths and can be even more addicting than cigarettes. So if your husband and son are smoking cigars, then they are NOT quit. Smoking is smoking is smoking. Our addicted brains try to convince ourselves that different forms of tobacco use is OK as long as it is not cigarettes, and that's just not the case! Tell them that if they want to keep their quits, then they need to quit smoking cigars now! Crave the Quit! Thanks everyone! Not to worry, I have not smoked any cigars! The question was NOT for me, it was for my son and husband. I did not realize that there was nicotine lurking in the Cigars or I would have never brought them home. Since they are high quality, mucho $$$ Cigars, I will give them to my uncle and get them out of this house. Hey Moqueen I,m the Bear and an x cigar smoker ( 5 a day ) just like Tutti says nicotine is nicotine a is addictive period even if you don,t inhale it,s absorbed by tissue in your mouth. But it,s not only the nicotine that you have to worry about its the 4000 other things that are contained in cigars, cigarettes, pipe tobacco etc that can lead to health problems (cancer of the mouth, throat and lungs)just to mention a few ??? and yes they smell like h---.If you,ve got 6 months of nonsmoking under your belt find the nearest trash can and drop these baby,s right in it,and congratulations on the 6 months thats an awesome amount of time to throw away for a few cigars and pains me to see those beautiful things going in the garbage LOL ;p Bear

I stopped smoking cigarettes about 26 years ago and had a break from smoking for about 4 years but I started then to have the odd cigar (Fridays), then it was Friday & Saturday then Sundays too. Weekend reward syndrome. Soon it was every night and then up to 7/10 a day till three years ago when I had to quit drinking and therefore the cigars that went with it but I went straight on to cigarettes and have smoked 15/20 a day for those three years. Now I am going to through the agony of stopping smoking like the rest of you and it is no less difficult for me than those who have had a straight cigarette addiction. So, I would advise - very strongly - against thinking of cigars as maybe being ok. They're just the beginning of the whole addiction again.
