Right On! That is so true. I don't like the word slipping, it somehow does not define how an ex smoker gets pulled back in by the demon, however for lack of a better word...Non of us, I dare to think want to smoke again. But it does seem that a stressful event or a bad feeling comes along and hooks people back into the belief that the smoke will help. Those of us who have quit before know all to well that it will never help. Nico strikes when we are at our most vulnerable. That is what addictions do, kick you when you're down.Finding a tool to deal with the vulnerability is key. We have to find a way to protect ourselves from the addiction, because it is waiting and waiting and waiting...We need a shield to stop him.So far I am using this site as my shield, it always picks me up if I am feeling off. But I am still searching for more tools. :) NOPE My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 660 Amount Saved: $274.3 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 4 Mins: 38 Seconds: 17

Well said Whynot!
As smokers we think, if even for one moment, it will end all our problems, make all the hurt go away
I have thought of this statement time and time again throughout my quit. As successful quitters, we know better. We know that this is just another lie. Another trick to try to get us to lite up again. Smoking doesn't do anything except kill. I still say.... as long as I don't lite that next cigarette, I am doing great! I've said that since early in the quit and it is true. Here's my thought.. We have, at this point, been thinking about that 'one cigarette' for so long we have erected a big 'ole pedestal and put that thing up there. Really! Think about it... As smokers we think, if even for one moment, it will end all our problems, make all the hurt go away. It's our reward for anything we accomplish and our consolation prize when we fail. And every time we do anything in life....we think lets have a smoke.. How can one cigarette, one thing that we hated so much that through all this hell we are going through we have said NO WAY, live up to those expectations. It can't. So as quitters that one cigarette is going to fail. And what have we all learned about putting something up to such high standards? The higher the pedestal, the harder the fall. That says to me that the longer I stay quit, the more it's gonna hurt me if I slip. So, with all that at stake, why would I smoke? Why would I take away all the pride I feel in knowing I was able to get through to this day, something too many people are never able, or maybe its willing, to accomplish. Thats what Im reminding myself of lately. Of what it meant to me to quit, and of how much that slip would hurt. I don't want to go through the turmoil that would cause. I just dont think it's worth it. Just my thought though...
