I did the Wellbutrin, I can't tell you if it helped or not. I was also on the patch, I can tell you that, that helped me. That was at the beginning of my quit and now I am freewheelin', without anything ....including nicotine DUNE My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 141 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,820 Amount Saved: $690.9 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 13 Mins: 14 Seconds: 3

* In my humble opinion, there is no magic pill to cure nicotine addiction. One still has to work hard to fight both mental and physical cravings. Even after 7 months of quitting, I still have to deal with moments of craving everyday! However, they are more and more manageable! :) A fifth time quitter, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 214 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,149 Amount Saved: $1070 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 19 Mins: 57 Seconds: 9

Audrey, Don't worry, I'm not putting myself to the test to the point where my back is against the wall or anything. Everything we've done so far, I've gone into it thinking (and telling my husband) "if I can't handle it, we're leaving". Even my son (who is 7). We went to a BBQ a few weeks ago where 90% of the people smoke and it was one of those all afternoon/evening/night affairs of drinking, sitting around talking, etc. and I even made sure my son understood that if I felt my quit was in danger, we were leaving -- even if we were in the middle of eating or something! :) But, I made it through. So, yeah, I've been leaving myself an escape hatch but in previous quits I would have not gone to the BBQ, so early in a quit, thinking "I can't handle this yet". This time I'm not waiting for some magic I Am A NonSmoker thing to occur, I'm just acting like one right now. Which sounds weird, but hopefully you know what I mean. Holtzi: Creepy isn't it? I'm absolutely blown away still by how this drug has enabled my quit. And I'm always encouraged to read posts by ex-chantix users who are still not smoking. Because I start to think "this was too easy, surely it falls apart once you are off it." Cigarettes Not Smoked

I too started Chantix 17 days ago. For the first time something is working! I tried Welbutrin, Zoloft, patches, gum, hypnotherapy, cold turkey... and have never been able to stay quit. I too was shocked the first time someone asked me how it was going and I realized I hadn't even thought about smoking all day. I didn't turn in to pyscho lady, I haven't been crabby, I haven't had any headaches, I think clearly... even with a 1 smoke slip over the weekend (fiancee' hospitalized for 4 days) I found myself unsatisfied and threw the pack out and thought "what the heck are you doing??" Luckily my insurance covers the medication and I am so glad! Little J, Good thing the program is 12 weeks with all that you want to experience!! You really are going to get the most out of Chantix with your strategy. Wish I had thought of it. I've not challenged myself as you are. The first one will be a wedding in May. Try not to put it/yourself to the test too much ok? It's a tease, and after all there is a new part of you waiting to be respected :) Take care Little J, Audrey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 70 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,406 Amount Saved: $196 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 20 Mins: 13 Seconds: 30

Audrey, glad to hear so far so good! Yes, I (right now) feel like 12 weeks is too long, also. I'm ready to be done NOW. But, I'm using all this time to expand my comfort zones and, yes, get used to being a non-smoker. So, where on previous quits I avoided triggers, this time I'm actively seeking them out: going to the bar, going camping, hanging with smoking friends, we're taking a road trip in two weeks, etc. I figured there wasn't ever going to be a better time to have the "first time I'm doing this as a non-smoker" experience than now, while I'm still on the Chantix. But, yeah, I'm astounded at how *rarely* I think about cigarettes now, at "only" 48 or so days. I know it was NOT like this on my last quit attempt, which was cold turkey, and made it almost 3 months. I mean, it's been weeks since I've had those "automatic" thoughts of smokes when I get in the car, or get my coffee, or whatever. Truly, my thinking patterns in a LOT of areas now are like I never smoked at all. Except, of course, all those "yet to do this as a nonsmoker" things, which is why we are rushing out to do them! Which also serves as a treat for me because it's mini trips, and nights out to eat, and nights out clubbing and all that, all falling under the guise of me telling my husband "we need to do XYZ so I can experience it as a nonsmoker" and him saying yes. I think next I have to push for "well, I need to take a long flight as a nonsmoker, haven't done that yet". :) Maybe to hawaii or something! I'll still be waiting to hear if a shoe drops on you in the next few days from the lack of Chantix, but thanks so much for posting. You've REALLY added to the relief from anxiety I've been also getting from other posters who have quit chantix. Aunt Deb and Little J, Doing just fine! I guess if it took a while to build up in our system it's not going to be gone in an instant either and it must still be helping. But really I don't think the program needs to be 12 weeks except for the fact that it probably takes most people that long to get used to being a non-smoker and to discover their new selves. I remember all the extra time I found myself with in the beginning. It seemed overwhelming...I was creating errands! No problem now, I'm an expert dilly-dallier :) I know I can never let my guard down even though I am way past withdrawals. What a gem Chantix was with that!!! Have a great day y'all!! :) Audrey Hope all is going well with you today. I am doing great without the pill. Like I said...no different for me. I am a Non-smoker now and it feels good. One of the best things about Chantix is that it has no nicotine and therefore lets the body get started cleaning up right away. The beauty of Chantix (even in the beginning of cessation)is that it helps minimize withdrawal. By the time we go off the Chantix...there is no more withdrawal to Do! The only issue that we face is getting hold of the emotional triggers associated with the habit/addiction we had. I have changed my old habits associated with smoking since I started the Chantix. Also, when I experience...what we think is a ***crave*** I stop and think about it..."what am I feeling right at this moment" Sometimes it turns out that I haven't had anything to eat in several hours and I just need food or something to drink. Or...I could be doing something that I used to associate smoking with and experience a ***crave****I take a deep breath, and blow it away. I might use chewing gum...but whatever I do...I don't smoke! Have a good day Audrey auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 84 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,219 Amount Saved: $399 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 14 Mins: 39 Seconds: 10

little J, All gone! It's weird to see that corner that I kept them in empty. I think Aunt Deb had posted previously that there was no Jeckyll & Hyde stuff going on here, and that she noticed NO change. I hope for the same for me, and will post to let you know.
