I've been on this site for more than two years and I have never seen the moderators allow such blatant "pushing" of one commercial product. In fact, we aren't even allowed to mention the title of the most prominent quit smoking book. This site has always been known to support the diversity of quit methods without pushing one method. This particular drug has NOT been on the market for very long and if you google it, you can easily see how much money is being spent to market and promote this product by Big Pharma. I respectfully request the moderators to moderate this discussion. No disrespect intended nmc, but if one thinks they still deal with *physical* cravings that long after, then I'd not be surprised at how prominent emotional/mental cravings would also be for that person. This coming from someone who was a biochem major and who has strong leanings toward neurosci. It is my opinion that people use the term "phsyical cravings" (in situations when biologically physical cravings are no longer possible) when they mean "behavioral cravings" (i.e., something to do with hands, mouth, desire to use the cigarette 'high' feeling as escape, enjoyment, etc. etc.). And my point about the "magic" of chantix is that as someone who has smoked for 22 years and 'suffered' through numerous other quit attempts, never before has any other quit method afforded me the ease of making behavioral changes that chantix has. I agree with you that the *potential* for re-addiction is life long, and need be recognized as such and dealt with as such, but not that the cravings are, or should be. (All this is assuming, of course, that for the sake of discussion we are differentiating "emotional", "mental" from "physical" in the way that most people due in conversation, despite the fact they they also originate in the brain and so are therefore physical as well.) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,120 Amount Saved: $250 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 11 Mins: 46 Seconds: 43

Hi, As I understand, Chantix was approved by the FDA only last year, in May 2006. It's still too early to say conclusively on its effectiveness. One smokes because one is addicted to nicotine. As in any other types of drug addiction, there is no magic and quick treatment. The real test begins 3 to 6 months (or longer) after one stops taking the treatment chemicals (be it Chantix, Welbutrin/Zyban, NRTs, or whatever ...). One still has to deal with real moments of craving, both emotionally and physically. Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 215 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,159 Amount Saved: $1075 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 0 Mins: 24 Seconds: 44

Phil and NoMoreCigs, I'm with Audrey in feeling that I am "well past withdrawals" and I'm not even at 50 days yet! I credit that entirely to the chantix and the going through the actual nicotine withdrawal while you still smoke which is entirely freaky. But, my life proceeds now as normal and I've been around smokers (even doing shots of tequila) and it never even occurs to me to smoke -- something I have NEVER experienced on any other quit. And this time I've really pushed myself to expand my comfort zones without smoking or smoking behavior -- no avoiding things, no physical substitutes in my hands/mouth, etc. As I said earlier, I go days without thinking about cigarettes, until I check into the smoking boards. :) I'm avidly following the "off of chantix" people because if going off this drug is as easy as other people have had it be, then I truly would call it a Magic Pill. It's impossible to explain, except perhaps to another Chantix user, how enabling it has been and how completely "cured" I feel relative to other previous quit attempts (via NRT and cold turkey). We'll see if I'm still in this spot in a month.
