My first quit was extremely difficult. Like BonBon I prepared for it for 9 months and still it was difficult. There seems to be a lot of evidence that quitting gets easier the more you prepare. That's from the guide on the left hand side of this forum. This second quit is easier b/c I knew what to expect- thought the sleep thing was still hard- I thought I was going to sleep my life away in the first 2 weeks. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,264 Amount Saved: $208 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 20 Mins: 36 Seconds: 7

.... much easier than I thought it would be. The main reason for me is this site. I have spent hours on here reading and posting. 'Knowledge is Power', somebody here used to sign off their posts (Shevie, Golferman?). This is so true. I have learnt so much from the experiences of others. I found that I could fight off any craving with this newly-found knowledge. I am now in the 6-12 club. I never believed I would make the 6-12 day club. At the risk of sounding a little dramatic, this site may have saved my life. I for one feel that I owe this site and as long as I own a computer will continue to post here. Sorry, but I'm not going away! Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 187 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,615 Amount Saved: 1402.5 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 4 Mins: 56 Seconds: 20

Quitting smoking, I guess that was pretty easy, getting through what it did to my brain chemistry for the first 3 months was horrible, difficult, scary, damn close to to aweful. I was depressed, clinically, truly depressed. As in, I don't want to get up, I feel NOTHING, I want to crawl in a hole until I see light again.. bad stuff. Anyone who has been depressed knows that "happy thoughts" aint gonna cut it. If it did, prozac would be use to feed plants. For those who suffer this fate when they quit smoking, it's TOUGH. I don't know why some people suffer depression when quitting and others don't, but when it happens, it's dark. I can take pain, I was a nationally ranked body builder, believe me, we know dedication, deprivation, and pain, but depression messes with your wil and your ability to feel joy. So, for me, this was hell, but it is done now and because I understand the effect of smoking on MY brain chemistry, I'll never go back. The fear of depression will keep me smoke free, I don't want to go through that again. So, not putting cigs in my mouth wasn't the hard part, waiting to be able to FEEL again, that was hard. i'm not going to lie. It was & at times still is the hardest thing i've ever done in my life, at no stage has this process been easy. I quit Cold Turkey because i new it was going to be &^@*!* hard stuff, i decided - Why delay it ?. & the stupid thing..... the only reason i don't smoke anymore is because it's such a flippantly anti-social habit / addiction / hoby... whatever you want to call it. The news around the world can be so depressing these days, i honestly feel that if smoking was still acceptable - i would light up in a second. :8o: but the non-smoking masses have made it pretty clear - smokers are a sub-human part of the human race. I guess we all know first hand, substance addiction is a horible thang. Since I can't edit my message I just want to say that I just noticed that it has been more than a year since I quit smoking. I hadn't even realised that it has already been a year. Time just really flew by.

It was tough for me at first but it got easier. I still have cravings every now and then but they do pass just like the rest of them. Both: It was the hardest thing I ever had to SURRENDER to but once I "got it" it has been so easy. Once I truly wanted to quit, I experienced almost none of the ferocious withdrawal symptoms that "they" want us to think there'll be. When I say "they" I'm referring to Big Tobacco. I firmly believe that they are somehow behind the almost universal belief that quitting smoking is an excruciatingly painful process that most do not endure. This could not be more untrue. But it succeeded in keeping me smoking way too long. Cold Turkeys have conspiracy theories... mc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 352 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,286 Amount Saved: $1408 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 6 Mins: 51 Seconds: 25

We have heard a lot of debate about the quitting process. While some members have a difficult time quitting, others seem to breeze through the process. Just to prove a point, please take a second and post whether the quit process has been difficult for you. This is a diverse group. We all come from different parts of the world and from different backgrounds. That is what make this site so helpful. There is usually someone that can relate to what you are going through. So.... which is it. Doesn't matter how long you have been quit. You opinion counts :) Has quitting been easy or hard for you? For me Quitting is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.
