Basically, Lexapro is the anti-depressant. It will help you to feel better about yourself in the longer term. It tends to reduce anxiety and lift your mood. For most people, you actually feel happier. It may well feel like a bit of an upper. Buspar is to reduce your anxiety. It is not a benzo as such but it has calamative effects. look at www.crazymeds.org for a more in depth, but fairly simply written description of what they both do. Look in the window on the left hand side, in the list you will find links to both of them. Buspar has actually received a lot of positive feedback and reviews. People say it is a much better long term solution than benzos like valium of xanax. However ive heard it takes 6 weeks to be effective. Talk with your dr about this if you are concerned, but I recommend reading the link I gave you also.

Thanks for the infomation. Mydosage is 20miligrams of Lexapro and 60milligrams of Buspar. More people have told me that Buspar is ineffective against depression I guess thats why i was prescribed Lexapro. I just do not no the diffferance between the two. Do you understand the two.

53runner, i am assuming this is what your dr prescribed? FYI from what I have read, its normal to take Buspar with an anti- depressant such as and SSRI like Lexapro. In fact, a lot of the evidence suggests that Buspar is designed to relieve any anxiety caused by an anti-depressant and that by itself it is not very effective at all (ie it is designed to be used in conjuction with an anti-depressant). I dont know anything about Buspar dosage, but I do know that the normal therupedic dosage of lexapro is 20mg, meaning that 60 is quite a lot. It may well be safe and effective to use 60 of lexapro, and i suspect that the buspar is prescribed because of the high dose of lexapro, to help calm you from any side effects. Always use the dosage recommended by your dr, and question him/ her if you are concerned that it is too much/little or if you arent happy with the choice.

Taz, I havent been on it, but I know that it is a tricyclic anti- depressant. Normally Dr's prescribe SSRI anti-depressants now a days, mainly because they tend to have less side effects and are often more effective first line treatment for panic disorder. www.crazymeds.org says the following about the side effects of your drug. "Typical Side Effects: The anticholinergic effects typical when starting TCAs - headache, nausea, sweating, dry mouth, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation and blurry vision.  If you get any, or all, of these, expect them to pass in a week or two.  Weight gain is common and constant.  " I suggest you have a look at what this site says about it as it tends to come from a mixture of medical information as well as first hand users experiences. So from what they say, its normal to have these kind of unpleasant side effects for 1-2 weeks but they should pass. See your dr if its bothering you. You may also want to ask your Dr as to why he/she chose Notryptaline over SSRIs like Paxil, Zoloft, Luvox (if you are outside the US) or even Prozac. Quite possibly there was a good reason, but its not that common. Hope this helps you out. Im assuming you have PD as you are in this forum, its a really tough thing to deal with. I wouldnt want to try the herbal approach myself to be honest. St Johns Wort etc can be effective for anxiety but I see it more as a long term solution once you are already better, and even then there is conflicting medical evidence as to whether or not it even works. It has side effects to in many people.

Hi all, I'm so incredibly tired. I'm tired of dealing with this every day and I'm tired of the ongoing physical symptoms, I have sore stomachs, nausea, dizziness, and tiredness almost everyday and I'm exhausted! I hate meds and try to stay away from them. I'm trying the herbal approach but its just is not working.. I've only taken meds once, Nortryptaline. Has anyone else taken this? I was okay on it but want to know more about it. I'm getting towards my witts end now, I've tried all the postive dialogue with myself and challenges but am about ready to throw away my beliefs in going the 'natural way' and try anything just so that I can have my life back. If anyone knows anything about this or has been on Nortryptaline could you please give me some feedback about your experiences with it or any knowledge you have on this med. I would REALLY appreciate any advice you guys could offer. Thanks heaps.
