OBX is shourt for OUTER BANKS. Anyhow, thank you all for responding. I do know breathing techniques..the problem is, once I'm so worked up, in the middle of a panic attack, I can't control my breathing enough to do it properly. IT's so scary...and yes, my husband will be with me, along w/my brother (who will take over if I can't drive) but my husband can't drive due to his recent surgery. THEN..I start getting the "what if's". Example: what if I have a nasty panic attack, and have my brother take over driving...then WHAT IF it STILL doesn't let up, and I'm basically stuck in a state of panic for my entire trip. I know, I know, absurd..physically you're body can't handle the adrenalin and will sort itself out..but it's those **** what if's. Once I return next Friday I intend to sign up for the panic workshop on this site....but God help me get to the OBX safely!

Hi Abersmom, Good Afternoon, just wanted to check in with you to see how you were doing. Were you able to try any of the suggested relaxation techniques or tools? If so were they helpful? Looking forward to hearing from you. Please let us know how you are doing. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to post them here. Hi Abersmom Maybe you should try the deep breathing or relaxation tapes before you get in the car then your anxiety level won't be as high. Try not to think about passing out in the car your husband will be with you won't he? I'm sure if something happened while you were driving, he'd help you out. Anxiety can make you dizzy but the chances of passing out are rare because when you are anxious, your blood pressure increases and when you faint, your blood pressure drops. Hope this helps you some!!

Abersmom, Welcome to the site. Please feel free to post anytime as we are always here to help. We have an amazing online support group, that is wonderful in their knowledge and help. I few tips that can be offered; try the online panic program to the left of the screen under "Reference Tools". It is a very beneficial program and it really works. Have you tried relaxation techniques? What about breathing techniques? Prepare yourself by reducing your anxiety level as much as you can. A hot bath, some soothing music, a warm beverage can help. Tomorrow do sign up for the Panic Diary where you can record your daily level of anxiety. You can also find how helpful it is to use breathing techniques to help you deal with your panic and anxiety. The Panic Program can help you understand more and may help you go about challenging your thoughts. Hope this helps! Josie

Whoa...I have tried several anxiety/panic "support" groups, and let me tell you, they are anything but!!! Most of my posts where never answered, while I constantly helped others...very unrewarding! Anyhow, I've read over your forum, and it's just wonderful, the support that is given and received here! A little about myself...I am a 29 year old stay at home mom, to my beautiful daughter, Abbey who is 2. I was diagnosed with anxiety/panic 9 years ago, and have been on Zoloft ever since (with the exception of my pregnancy). Post partum, I developed awful OCD< which is under control w/my Zoloft, and psychotherapy. Here is my upcoming concern...it's the distnce driving thing. I have got absolute butterflies/knots in my stomach for my upcoming vacation to the OUter Banks, b/c I have to drive the whole way (7 hours). My husband recently had surgery on his face/sinuses and cannot drive due to vertigo. The last time we went to the ocen (3 hours from our house)...I sincerely thought I was going to pass out. I began to see the dark & gold specks, and could NOT control my breathing enough to do my breathing techniques. Scared me to death..b/c my daughter was in the car. What would I do if I passed out while driving her??? Man, I'm a mess..and I would SO appreciate any encouragement/tips! Thank you!
