Kev, Cut off all your triggers that you can but be aware that they come out of nowhere, completely unexpectedly, at anytime! Be prepared - forearmed is forewarned (unless you are Mick McManus, then it's a smack in the gob!) :) Good Luck, we are watching!!! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Right, I am getting straight back on the horse. I've set reminders to go off on my phone every 1 hour from 8am tomorrow with positive messages. I've given all my money away and this time they have hidden it from me. This means that I cannot buy any cigarettes even if I climb the walls. The IM works great, a bit like a shift watch. I have my log to remind me where I failed in the past. It would just be like me to quit for good when I have to visit a professional. I've got phil to thank for that. Any professional scares the living dodo outta me! :) Tomorrow I will be on my own dealing with work stuff so no CD but I intend to be kept occupied. Most importantly, I will be cutting myself off from triggers until I am stronger. Building up as much positive thoughts as I can. The CD will be on repeat play all sat and sun. Gotta kick it. I'll do it kev style. Fight it with PMA. Looking forward to it. Hi Pat, Thanks for your post. I agree 100%, however, keeping hold of that feeling after about 6hrs of not smoking is easier said than done. It can take minor things to turn me from 'i'm holding on, another couple of hours please' to 'anything for a smoke'. It is mind tricks brought on by change of chemicals of course and I know that. Now, a lot of people would at this point, say, right thats it, i've tried quitting and I couldn't do it. Now for some reason, I either have the determination/stupidity to keep on trying with different methods. If I can get past three days then I have a good chance. I really don't want to think that I am stuffed with this addiction for life, its also the reason why I have agreed to see the non-smoking professionals. If they say 'Kevin, you're going to smoke until you die and there is no way around that' then and only then will I consider giving up trying to quit. Kev,
I realised that it is 99% positivity related and that you can control your state of mind
However we understand it, whichever way we decide to do it, whenever we have decided to smoke our last cigarette, it is 100 % knowing in our mind, our heart and our soul that smoking is never an option for us ever again. I am an addict who chooses not to smoke. :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 136 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,440 Amount Saved: $1,904.00 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 2 Mins: 24 Seconds: 56

Hi, Kev. If you want to be a mayflower, you're welcome in the treehouse anytime. Keep checking in, stay positive & hang in! I've also sent away for some professional advice (thanks phil for getting it into my head). We'll see what they say. ...Which leads me to the question. Am I an April Ashkicker, Mayflower, or June-O-Reactor (I made the last one up)? Or am I all three given that I have attempted quits in all three months? Thanks Pentinent, It was only very recently, in fact only until after reading the book, that I realised that it is 99% positivity related and that you can control your state of mind. Lucky for me, I have help in the form of happy non smokers at SSC who IM me seemingly at just the right moments. It really does make a difference from dreading the quit to craving the quit. I.e. I am pretty sure your money is safe on the laptop front because you are right. :) I'm not going to fiddle with my quit counter. Hopefully I won't get one of those 'Congrats Kev has 30 days' when in actual fact I might have half a day. I think Mr Ed has me at something like 50 days already on his spreadsheet :) :) :) My first smaller target is 1 1/2 days (aka Thursday night/ Friday morning). I would be insanely happy if I could reach that. I think you might know when I do :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/10/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 75 Amount Saved: 12.60 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 9 Mins: 44 Seconds: 49

Good Luck Kev, You are certainly turning this quitting lark into an art form! Good for you!! I am so pleased that you are working so hard on your mindset. When you look back from 100 days or more and you will, you will realise the importance of positivity and how it made all the difference to you quit. I'll contribute to your laptop if I'm wrong!!! All The Best :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1121 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,420 Amount Saved: 5,605.00 Life Gained: Days: 180 Hrs: 1 Mins: 5 Seconds: 34

Hi Aloha, The laptop is a gift from me to me. I'll gladly be out of pocket for a while though. For me to make it through to a full 7 days would be something truly amazing. Only my friends here and one parent thinks I can do it. I haven't exactly made it through a full day yet (some days are closer than others) but am working on it. My main task is to stay positive throughout, despite my main trigger being oh so close. I'm going to be on IM today to get me through this afternoon and then again tomorrow (but all day). A day and a half is an accomplishment at the moment. In the meantime i am working on my calm anchor listening to the birds twittering and keeping with the CD.
