Hi Sammi, I have just recently started having panic attacks again after a few years without any so I"m "reentering" the medication realm....however, a few years ago when I was having multiple panic attacks on any given day, the doctor had me on xanax and a beta blocker called inderal (propranolol). It wasn't a 100% fix but then nothing ever is but it definitely stopped my heart from feeling like it was literally going to come right through my chest. And yes, I know how difficult and scary it can be to put that new pill into your mouth.......going through that myself right now so hang in there! kathy

Sammi, Im on Xanax and Atenolol (generic for Tenormin) also a beta blocker. My doctor put me on the beta blocker for the adrenaline surges I get along with the rapid heartbeat with anxiety, full blown panic it really runs wild. My dosage is low 25mg, it keeps it around 62-70 bpm. I still sometimes feel as if my heart is racing when panicked, but no where near the uncontrollable wild ones I had before.

I went to my doctor today after suffering the last couple of weeks with severe panic attacks. Not that this is new to me, but they have been worse lately. She prescribed a low dosage of valium and carvedilol (a beta blocker)to take when needed, in addition to my usual zoloft. I am so scared of new meds but at this point I feel that its time to try some. To be honest, the thought of slowing down my heart is very frightening to me. (Thats why I dont understand the beta blocker?) I keep telling myself that as bad as my attacks have been lately the meds would almost have to make me feel better, how could it possibly be any worse? I am going to make myself get up in the morning , go to the pharmacy and get these meds filled. Then i'm going to make myself take them! (even though that is easier said than done! haha) Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone out there has gotten any relief from either one of these meds? Any responses would really be appreciated. Maybe it would ease my fears of taking something new if I knew that these have actually worked for others. Thanks So Much, Samantha P.S. I feel so stupid for being so desperate for relief from the panic, yet being too scared to take the meds to find out what will work for me!!! Can anyone else relate to this? :confuse:
