Great post Polly! Thanks for showing the members that you are in control and that asking questions is the main key to understanding anxiety and panic. Thanks! Melanie ______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hi, Just wanted to tell you about my experience with an SSRI. It was Paxil. Taking this drug only made me feel worse. I developed more anxiety. My Dr. told me to keep taking it because it takes time to start to work, but when I contacted the Pharmaceutical co. who made the drug, they told me that they have found in their studies that when it causes more anxiety that that is a symptom that usually doesn't go away after a few weeks. I ended up with horrible side-effects from this drug and almost ended up in the hospital. All of this shook up my confidence and made my panic-disorder worse. If you have some questions about any medication that you are taking, call the Company who makes it. They will connect you to the customer service dept. and they will give you all the info that you need about the drug. Tell them about the side effects that you are having too. I was told from the maker of Buspar (which is an anti-anxiety drug that blocks seratonin) that there are two seratonin receptors in the brain, one for anxiety and one for depression. Too little seratonin can cause depression and too much can cause anxiety. So that may be why an SSRI makes you have more anxiety. Do your research about this yourself. It's worth it.

needtotalk, You need to give any new med at least a week or two if not longer before you start feeling its benefits. I speak from experience. Hang on and give it time to work for you. You should be feeling better soon. Good luck! ,
who wants to live this way?
Nobody. As for the relaxing part....I use meditation CD's. Nature sounds (thunderstorms, running streams) and the like. I have also found several other things quite useful in relaxing... I dont watch anything on TV that is depressing. I only watch sitcoms and educational TV. I also watch home and garden television, The Learning Channel, the Food network or the Travel channel, A&E and stuff like that. I find that shows like CSI or Law and Order upset me and I find that it stays with me long after the shows are over. So I stick with "safe" programs, especially before bedtime. Another thing that is great to do is to listen to music. I dont mean put on some music while you read or while to do housework . I mean put on some of your favorite music and plop yourself down in your favorite chair and really listen to the music. Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast. Camamile Tea works well too. I mix up a pitcher of it so I can have iced tea because I dont care for hot tea. Stay away from caffeine and be sure to eat properly. Dont skip meals and try to cut back on candy and sugars. Good luck in finding that magic thing that calms you. Mike

I am a bit more relaxed today. but, i felt jittery all last night and jerked awake a few times. i am jittery all today also...i took my blood sugar and it is normal. i am eating fine. i had only one coffee this am. maybe it is from the anxiety i have been having. it's almost like i'm shivering. this really sucks. i was never like this...so why am i like this now? my nerves are a wreck! who wants to live this way?
