Being at the hospital visiting a loved one, having to walk at least 1/4 mile to a smoking area, once getting there, smoking 2 instead of one, because it's such a long way from the room your visiting. 2. And doing that how many times during the day. At least four for me. Than you come in freezing and cursing the fact that you smoke and that you really need to quit. Just to be honest, I have plenty of moments when I worry that while I'm secure in my quit right now, down the road I may want to smoke again! But I have to remind myself of how much easier life is now (relatively, LOL) that I don't worry about running out of cigs, stealing away to smoke, smelling, etc... Plus, if I started and had to quit again, I might gain ANOTHER 15-20 pounds! Great post freemom I still have a lot of hard cravings since i'm only 20 days into my quit, but I enjoy the freedom of being free from having to worry about when and where I can have a smoke makes life so much easier :) Its still hard for me to drive by a gastation because I still have that nic demon in the back of my head saying that having one smoke wont do you any harm type of thinking. But as we all know just having one puff can lead you to becoming a full time smoker again which I never wont to be. 2) Drive around town at 3 o'clock in the morning looking for an open convenience store. 3) Cough often or constantly. 4) Leave in the middle of your child's band concert to step outside for a few minutes. 5) Not go somewhere because smoking is not allowed there. That was a great post Freemom! I could see myself right there with you. Who else would set a cup they're drinking from on a garbage can in front of a convenience store. Hi. Just wanted to share an example of the range of thoughts we quitters can have in a short time. To set up, this all happened after I finished exercising and was on my way to 7-11 for iced coffee. Thought #1 - "Wow. I can't believe not so long ago I'd be going to buy cigs along with the coffee. Yuck! What an awful thought" Thought #2 - As I was leaving with my cold drink, the couple behind me had just bought packs of cigs and was stopping to light up and I thought "Oh, remember when I'd be able to stop and enjoy that feeling of lighting up" Thought #3 - "No way! Look at them - they are so hooked they can't even wait to get home, etc - they are standing with their coffee cups resting on the garbage can just so they can get their drug into them! I'm so glad I was able to break free!" Point of all this - That nicodemon is persistent, even well into our quits, but we CAN succeed if we just ride out the wave of those smoking thoughts and cravings. Hope this helps others!
