Poker - I don't know what to say except for good luck, I wish you the best and hope that you make it through this without smoking. I know that you can but I don't think you know that. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 217 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,255 Amount Saved: $911.40 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 3 Mins: 24 Seconds: 39

PB, I think you can see that as long as you stay here and get support no one will allow you to slip. Take all of this advice into your heart. Speaking of hearts, you mentioned earlier having a heart to heart talk with your son. Have you done that? I think so much of the emotinal burden will be lifted and it will help ease the fear in both of you. Hi pokerbrat Sounds like the junkie thoughts are coming full force today. When you have them, do you make a more truthful response? Like Junkie Thought
I quit, I can do it, so why not enjoy a few more years of smoking then quit again, since I know I can.
Response
If i have even one puff now who knows when I will quit again. It might be 10 or 20 years. Or never. Enjoy? What's to enjoy? Coughing, smelling bad, spending all that money?
or Junkie Thought
my oldest one is leaving the nest, whats the point now, go ahead and smoke.
Response
My oldest one is leaving the nest and I want to be around when he comes home. My younger son is still home and needs me to set an example for him. They are both proud of me for quitting, and I don't want to let them down.
Many of us used cigarettes to deal with uncomfortable emotions. It is part of this journey to find new ways to respond to powerful feelings. You are anticipating the loss of daily contact with your son. Of course that is difficult, but he is still your son, you still love each other, and smoking will not change any of it. Maybe save your cigarette money so you and your other son can go visit him at some point, or to pay for phone calls from him. And yes, there will come a day when you don't think of smoking. Hang in, pokerbrat. You want this & your sons want it for you. I'll bet you have taught your sons since they were little not to just do easy things. You are doing this had thing, yo can keep doing it & you all will be so much better off for it. Yes, the cravings and thoughts will stop, it's different for everybody, but try to see something positive in it, pokerbrat. Try, when you crave, to think of it as another step closer to never craving again. Imagine, really picture, your life of freedom from addiction, think of all the benefits you've experienced so far & then shout WOOHOO!! Going for a small reward helps, too. I hope you have been rewarding yourself?? You are not being dishones with anyone, you have those 72 hard-won days & you have the right to all the rewards and congratulations tha go with them. Don't let the junkie take away any of your pride or sense of accomplishment. He doesn't get a say anymore. You can do it, you are doing it, you will keep doing it! I walk almost everyday Sue, usually 45 minutes, close to 3 miles. I have fruit, veggies, nuts, all the normal things to snack on. The craving really has never stopped for me, I want one everyday. This weekend has been especially hard for some reason, and of course the days coming are going to be difficult. I know I'll be in a bad emotional state when I send my son off to bootcamp Thursday. I am a single dad, and have raised both my boys since they were 5 and 7 on my own, so my oldest and I are extremely close. It's hard to send him off, and I am scared for him. I know he is scared, but he has no idea how scared I am for him. It's going to be a messed up week and I know I'm going to be leaning hard on all of you who come to this site. I know smoking won't help my situation. I know the junkie will be whispering lies and sweet nothings in my ear, I know the storm is coming. Hopefully I can keep my footing and not slip. yes it will, I promise it will, but not if you smoke. The craves will stop as long as you quit. Smoking will not help, you only have to read here to see that. What are you doing to help? Are you exercising, drinking plenty of water, keeping healthy snacks available, reading or watching movies? How are you helping yourself deal with this? Have you tried any of those and do they help? I am glad you posted here, keep doing that and read read read - that is how I got through this - I know you will too. Just don't smoke. N.O.P.E.
