Well I have been rather quiet of the weekend (by my standards anyway) so am going to make up for it today. Below is a collection of happy weekend stories I thought I would share. I've even got a catchy title!
'Turfing along on a crest of a wave'
------------------------------------
This weekend I helped my dad returf half the lawn. Apparently new turfs are magical things that only appear every once in a while, at least according to the salesman, so when my dad spotted some in a garden centre, all help was enlisted. After taking up the old lawn there became the ultimate opportunity to stamp out some craves quite literally. The ground has to be compacted and made even before the new turfs can be laid. This requires stamping all over the earth with some big boots. Ever seen anyone shout 'I will not smoke' whilst stamping on earth? Well if you do, they may be laying a new lawn :)
On to one of the biggest unforseen advantages of giving up smoking. Those who have been reading my threads for a long time will know that at the start of my quits I planted loads of sunflowers and a tomato plant. The sunflowers were named after SSC members and the tomato plant was named after the person who inspired me to do some gardening in the first place, 'Phil'. It was like an exchange program because Phil ended up having a tomato plant called 'Kev' :) .
Well I thought I had lost Phil, he went all grey and furry. So I concentrated on my sunflowers and put it down to me being a rubbish gardener. Then all of a sudden, phil started growing at a rapid rate, and flowers started shooting up. Then appeared my first tomatoes! Yippee. Well this weekend inbetween turfing, we had homegrown tomato soup. If I had never quit I would never had that experience. So cheers!
