Thanks for your comments. The idea of medication has just concerned me from the beginning and it will continue to do so until I am able to deal with the Panic through skill and therapy and get off of the medication. Thanks again. Theresa

Hi Theresa I was on paxil for a year and a half and like you didn't want to be on it for the rest of my life. I stopped taking it, with the help of my doctor, and I am paxil free for over a year now. My anxiety is still there and some panic attacks too. I deal with each day as a "new" day and try to deal on my own. It feels great to be off medication but sometimes it seems like it would be a lot easier to be on medication. I choose to deal without as if there were no alternative, the "old school" way. I'm doing pretty well so I have hope that you could do the same. Good luck and remember, don't be afraid of the medication if it can help you.

theresa, YES! I was on Xanax for 8 years and was weaned off VERY slowly over 3 months. It was until recently (i am going through a lot of stress right now) that I began having attacks again. I went 4 years with no attacks and no meds. I think that my recent attacks have been brought on by stress but I am going to try to get through it without meds if i can (hence why I am here!). Don't doubt yourself though.. I did not leave my house in over 3 months 12 years ago and Xanax helped me get through it but I knew I needed off of it. IT CAN BE DONE! Do it SLOWLY!!!!!! Talk to your Dr. and what really helped me was realizing that any new anxiety was probably just withdrawl...

Thank you for your support! I just started Lexapro today and will be weaning off Klonopin once the Lexapro becomes effectve. I plan on working hard in therapy and using the tools on this site. Thanks again :)

Hiya Theresa, I have been on paroxetine for over 7 years and my doctor decided to put me on zispin.Unfortunately I came of the Paroxetine too quickly (from 20 to 10 to 5 to 0mg)in a week and felt quite odd, however,I went back upto 10mg and feel reasonably ok, and this time I will reduce far more slowly. To be on the safe side I would reduce as slowly as I felt comfortable with, the good news is, lots of people have reduced slowly of this med and are now doing well. Take care and be gentle with yourself. Neil, London.

i myself cannot come off the medication successfully just yet, but in a support group that I go to about 90 percent of the people are leading very healthy successful lives after discontinuing their medications. Just make sure that you feel secure with your therapy first and that you are weaned off of your medication very slowly. Medication is only 30 percent of recovery staying recovered is all about cognitive behavioral changes and knowing how to deal with your illness. Your not alone and I think you are so brave for trying so hard to recover many people just suffer their whole lives but you've taken the initiative to make the difference in your life. Best of luck and remember there are so many of us out here.

I wanted to know if there was anyone who has been weaned off of thier medication (doctor's approval of course)with success. My fear is that I will need to be on medication the rest of my life. I go to therapy, particpating in this group is a great help, and I allow myself to feel as much emotion as I can and deal with the panic as best as I can. I'm not sure if I would be able to do that without being on medication. If anyone has a success story please let me know. It would be helpful, I need all the encouragement I can get. Thank you!
