Cold Turkey vs. NRT.

for 17 år siden 0 481 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Cold Turkey here - much much better for me to quit that way. Had 2 NRT quits previously - both failed, one in 2004 and the last one in 2006 which failed after 7 months quit and I started again last August)..........but having said that I do think they helped break the psychological addiction to an extent in that after I started smoking again I never truly got addicted in quite the same way as before, so in a sense NRT may have played a part in the success of my CT quit... I think you'll find Knowledge is the key for a solid quit. Cold turkey here btw. As far NRT & the pharmaceutical companies go... no comment My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 984 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 34,440 Amount Saved: $6,396.00 Life Gained: Days: 140 Hrs: 17 Mins: 1 Seconds: 37

You know...I've seen this debate since I first came to this site. The great thing with this post is that we all acknowledge that it is different for each person. I used the patch (Now if you went by completing the survey, my physical addiction was supposedly pretty despite smoking up to 1 pack a day) I knew that my addiction was 90% psychological and 10% physical. The patch helped me to deal with the psychological/emotional part of my addiction without having to go through major physical withdrawal. Since I will not be quitting again, I won't have to try another method. However, the real ticket to success (for me) was changing how I thought/acted and lived. The physical addiction was only a small part of that.... Good luck to all..We can do this! I am a cold turkey with a warm heart. I don't think it matters how you get there, as long as it works for you! Did someone request the NRT's???? Let's see, I have tried about everything except stand on my head :eg: I tried Zyban, Zyban and patches, patches, easy way to stop smoking, natural stuff, cold turkey, and now Chantix. I hated the patches, never could step down with any success and I tried them a lot. The Zyban I tried twice, the easy way twice, cold turkey twice, and now I am finally on my last and final quit. Bottom line whatever works for someone that is all that matters. But I did find cold turkey the easiest, but I still needed some extra help as you can see. I'm a turkey for sure!!! I always believed if I was going to get nicotine I would do it the old fashion way (with a smoke). Going cold turkey was hard and I never tried any other method. If NRT's work for a person they are fine with me. The point is not to smoke! I agree with John. NRT's don't make sense to me. I quit cold turkey. Seems like, to me, NRT's delay and lengthen the withdrawal period, but I could be wrong. Doesn't really matter as long as you quit eh? I do, however, chew a ton of gum... not nico-gum just the typical store brand. But, honestly, without chewing gum this would be harder for me... I started with gum, but after a few days decided to be done with it and go cold turkey. I had tried NRTs in earlier attempts, but my heart wasn't there so the quits didn't stick. It doesn't matter how you do it; the trick is to not light another cigarette. I tried cold turkey this time but I only made it a few days. So I got patches & really stuck to the program. I had no problems at all either stepping down the patches or after I was done with them. Whatever works! NRT's don't make sense to me. Seems like a slow death. Would rather endure the pain for a week and be done with it!
