Thanks Bear! You continued on and succeeded, there is validation in this and your journey has been inspiring to many. However you came to us is not important, the fact that you are still here supporting, is what we value :) Josie, Support Specialist

Did anyone see the movie "Bounce" with Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck? There was this scene with the two actors: Buddy: You only took 2 puffs of the last one. Abby: That's cause I don't really smoke. Yeah, well, last year I started chewing the gum, you know? Because my friend, Donna, she was trying to quit smoking and she found that the gum was soothing to the nerves. So I started chewing it, then I got hooked on the gum and then I got TMJ from the chewing. So this is just to get me off the gum. I'm 10 days off the gum. LOL! Bear, I quit before this one and didn't call it a quit at all. For some reason I all of a sudden lost the urge to smoke, this went on for 4 days. No cravings, no withdrawal just a lack of interest, It was very odd indeed. Then when the cravings came back I said well, since I already have 4 days might as well keep going. Was kinda funny when Sue kept asking me if I quit smoking and I would say, NO just don't feel like having one right now. Because I was not fully committed my quit did not last. That falls under the problem of Staying Quit. This last quit I know is for good, seeing our cat start to suffer from cancer in the throat and lungs was unbearable. I can honestly say, if you feel you are going to slip then you need to meet some of the people who it is too late for. Sad as it may be it will secure your quit. I definitely would not have got this far without this site and like Unhooked, would recommend it to anyone who wants to stop smoking. Have in fact done so. They might be on here. I dunno. Yep, I'm with the bear & the goat. This is the first place I would turn and certainly the first place I would send anyone who asked for advice about quitting. I agree, I wouldn't have made it this far without the support of this group. Even after quiting so many times previously...I was still nieve as to what it took. I sort of had the mentality that after a couple of weeks it would be all over. Little did I know that the mental battle could stretch on for so long. Some things worked better than others in helping me with this quit. I believe it was a combination of a whole host of tools that were instrumental this time.....including the wonderful people here. My Quit was just a little different that most of the people here.I had no medical reasons to quit as a matter of fact I could have cared less whether I quit or not.Yes I was part of a study group and yes I had received my NRT,s free but the idea of quitting smoking was not a high priority with me.I joined this army of quitters ??? in march 2007 and was challenged as to my motives for being here.I also read, posted made a pain in the a-- and fool of my self and generaly had a good time. The days streched into weeks and then into months and now here I am closing in on 1/2 a year .My point.Use What Ever Works but if I ever had to start over again this is were I would start. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 177 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,186 Amount Saved: $1,770.00 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 10 Mins: 14 Seconds: 7
