A13 - I think walking is the best exercise to regain your lung capacity. Anyone can do it, you can do it anywhere, it doesn't cost anything or require any dues, and you can build up gradually! Q14 - What is the best way to get through the strong desire to smoke after a meal? How do I feel. It makes me sad and angry that smoking has taken 3 of my siblings. I try not to judge. What I am doing is trying to be an example. Many of my friends and family have seen me struggle for a long long time to quit. They never got mad or judge me so I will do the same for them. When they ask how I am doing I let them know. When they want to talk about quitting I will listen and tell them what worked for me and will tell them about this site. Q 12 Will the day come when will you not think about smoking? How fun, Kev! Great stuff in here. A9 I don't think I worry too much about the health effects, but I am aware that there are some, and go to the doctor when I am concerned about things. One of my long-held fears was that I would develop cancer after I quit. Now I figure if it happens, it happens, but it won't be because I stopped smoking. lol..sheesh what a goofball I can be. Q10 What self talk did you use that was particularly helpful? 1) I forced myself to continue to enjoy the things I liked. So I drank my coffee....sat on my patio and listened to the thunderstorms smoke free........but........but ........but I likewise added new routines to fill in "trigger" voids with the extra time I had. They inlcuded lots more walking the dog....trying herbal teas and pampering ME more often. my question: Do you ever feel like you worry to much about getting cancer because you quit too late? A7: I never really WANTED to quit until this time around. I desperately wanted to NOT smoke. So I think that is why this quit has worked for me. Q8: Did you continue with your usual routine (ex: drinking coffee, ect.) or did you have to learn a new routine? *Awesome idea Kev* A6: There isn't really anything I have to do now to stay quit. The first year was really just about embracing the changes - no matter WHAT those changes were. I would think back to the first couple weeks and how much I NEVER wanted to do that again. Don't feed your smoking thoughts/craves!! Sounds easy but it isn't always ;) Q7: What stopped you from quitting before or why did your last quit end? A5: I noticed better breathing within a few days. Other improvements like more energy, better sleep, better skin, hair & teeth, etc., about 30 days ito it. Better every day! Q5 (?) What do you do to avoid feeling complacent & keep your guard up?
