I have several friends who use WW and several who use Curves and another from this site who uses LA Weight Loss. I have used a variety of different plans myself. Just like quitting smoking: it only works if you work it.
I'm on an "eating plan" which is based on Mediterranean eating: lean protein, vegetables, and whole grains, and only healthy fats, like olive oil, nuts and avocados. No white bread, no white flour, no sugar, no processed foods. That means, no hot dogs, no pizzas, no ready-to-cook boxed stuff. It's based on healthier eating. And it requires planning ahead, but it really is just a lifestyle change, like others said. When I really, really work it, it works. I have a little spiral book where I write down everything that goes into my mouth and that helps a lot.
I think we have to get that mindset we had when we quit smoking -- I am going to do this whatever it takes. It is so much like quitting smoking -- the fear of failure, the fear of how hard it might be, the rationalizations and junkie thinking, and the "one of these days..." mindset. Genevieve is right: size isn't the issue. What's important is your health and your state of mind. And...it takes one day at a time.
