Gin, it doesn't matter how long you smoked, we all wish we could rewrite history, but what you can do is make sure you never go back. Cigarettes were killing you slowly but surely, and now that you have stopped that process, know this, it gets better, a wee little bit each and every day, and soon the days go faster and faster, and there is a great freedom in being free of cigarettes, just take one day at a time, smoking is Not an option, Not One Puff Ever! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 232 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,800 Amount Saved: $2,447.60 Life Gained: Days: 28 Hrs: 10 Mins: 12 Seconds: 54

I guess I smoked more than 40 years. Used to steal a few out of my Mom's pack when I first started then it was on to buying one in the vending machine when they were about a quarter. Wish I never started. The phisical craves leave but those darn smoking thoughts hit every so often like a giant wave and then pass over. It does get easier but remember YOU CAN'T HAVE EVEN ONE PUFF. Yeah, Gin!!!!! Sounds like you're doing great. Exercise is a very good way to boost the "feel good" brain stuff and seems to help. Remember to drink lots of water to flush the toxins out. Like Blue Cloud said, this is your quit, so what anyone else does doesn't matter. Like kev posted yesterday in the parsnips thread, would you hit yourself in the head with a 2x4 if your friends were doing it? I, and many others, quit with smokers in the house. You're doing a wonderful thing for yourself and it sounds like you have the right attitude for it. let us know if we can help. Great going Gin. Remember you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. Think about rewards for making it through the first, second and third days (at the end of each day) as making it through is a special acheivement and it also helps the brain balance the fact you are not giving it that unhealthy reward that you have in the past. It can be free of course. Anything you feel good from is a reward in my books. Best wishes and keep close! Gin, Thanks for the update! Be sure to have a coping strategy planned and prepared for when you are with your smoking friends. Give yourself an alternative to giving in. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Hello everybody Well, I started yesterday...couldn't do it sooner, but now I'm ok and I hope to stay that way. This morning lo and behold I was able to get up without feeling like I had to die for a cigarette...it's a good feeling. I realize that it's physical withdrawals that you have to deal with but it's also a mindset. Funny thing is I'm getting support from a lot of people, but most people I get support from are smokers. I guess they wish they could stop too, but it doesn't make it easier for me when they support me and they smoke at the same time. I'm hoping that watching these friends smoke won't trigger me to start again. I've smoked 40 years now and although I don't have respiratory problems the way I'm going I will down the road. It's a long time to have a habit and I have to persevere in my quit. Well, I'm off to exercise...I'm hoping that this will help in my quit.
