Several years ago I was given a book that helped
me tremendously. I can't recall the author but the
title was something like "How to Learn to Talk to
Yourself". We all are "thinking" -- i.e., "talking to
ourselves" -- constantly. when we're anxious,
depressed, or panicky we naturally concentrate on
those feelings, however, I've learned to, literally,
"turn those thoughts OFF" by picturing a big red
stop sign in my mind and, in my head, turning
down another road then "making" myself think a
"good thought." Sounds silly, I know, but it works! I
used to go through entire scenarios -- for example,
what if there was a tornado RIGHT NOW. Where
would my kids be; What would I do; What would it
feel like if one was injured or dying. Sometimes I'd
even "walk through" a funeral in my mind. Then, a
friend gave me this book -- I was in therapy and on
meds at the time, but the book helped A LOT. Don't
know if it's still in print but mabe there are similar
books available now! DON'T GIVE UP!
