Alcohol and My Quit

for 17 år siden 0 96 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
When I quit smoking I had to quit drinking all together. It not only made me crave a cigarette more but impaired my judgment. It was hard... especially considering by band was playing cinco de mio parties with free margaritas and I was the only one not drinking. Then after 1 month I slowly started to learn how to drink again. I started with 1 beer with my wife. Then slowly I got back into being able to socially have a few and be ok. If you have a glass of wine in the safety of your home at first, then you'll see. But you can't give up everything...and after a while it all works out. Patience is the key. Kaitilina, That's the spirit! You may just want to watch your consumption the first couple of times as you practice this new habit of enjoying a drink without a cigarette. You may also find it helpful to change what you are drinking. For instance if you always drank beer and smoked like a chiminey, a glass of wine may help break the association you hold with drinking & smoking. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Penitent, Your right, I'm going to take your advice and live life slowly and carefully without smoking. Like all trigger's we have to arm ourselves with coping mechanisms because if we deny ourselves things because they will "make us want a cig" then we might be setting ourselves up to fail. I conquered the car cig, the morning cig, the after the meals cig, the I'm bored cig, the I'm stressed cig, the break cig and numerous other cigs, why not the alcoholic drink cig. Hey Kaiti, for the sake of some balance here, please know that it is perfectly possible to quit smoking quite comfortably whilst continuing to enjoy the far-reaching benefits of alcohol consumption! Hell, one of my biggest rewards (promoted by so many here as a must when quiiting) was a bottle of fine red wine or a wonderful single malt. What better way to celebrate another week without cigarettes?!! And hey, I've had plenty of weeks now, 182 to be precise! Do as you think best for your quit, ALWAYS, but be aware that the same triggers and cravings will surface if ever you think of returning to alcohol. That's why I always recommend that new quitters take alcohol head on early and beat it, just like they do all other aspects of day-to-day life. It can be done and comfortably so, but it is your choice and I know that you will choose what is best for you. Good Luck! Hic! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/18/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1267 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25,340 Amount Saved: 6,335.00 Life Gained: Days: 203 Hrs: 12 Mins: 12 Seconds: 20

Kaiti, you have been very snesible in your attitude to the drinking Kudos to you I have lost my taste for alcohol over the last few years , adn hardly drink at all now. the other thing you can do kaiti is ask a supportive friend to help you guard your quit if you are drinking. In other words, that person will absolutely not let you have a cig, no matter what you say. I've seen it a hundred times around here. Simply put, quitting and alcohol don't go together. Protect your quit at all costs. Why take the chance? It just isn't worth it.
