I know that I ned to calm down- so I have taked up tai chi lessons... As for all my hopes about the new me- healthy eating, more sleep etc.- at the moment, it's still too much, I'll get of the chips and chocolate later. First things first. I find it dificult visualizing (frankly, even if I try hard, I cannot "see" my mother, father r boyfriend before my mind's eye with any precision... weird). I'm trying to imagine myself turning down a cigarette offered by a good-looking man in a seductive situation- but can't manage that, yet. Oh well. JDK, I like that!!! Allot!! I know I become more health conscience. I eat different (though the waistline doesn't want to show it). I'm more aware of chemicals we use and at the onset began to eat more organic and use more natural products. It sort of became the new me....or almost like a new hobbie. Hi Mercy, One of my CD's told me to do the vision thing (think of yourself one year from now as a non smoker) so did it on a daily basis before I quit. I envisioned myself calm and relaxed in a shiny green suit jacket playing chess better than I currently do when someone comes up to me and offers me a cigarette and I say calmly but with happy authority 'No thanks, I DONT SMOKE'. The aim I reached so far is that I can play slightly better chess on a good day. I don't have the flashy green suit and I turn into a nutjob in an instant so I am far from relaxed :) But I am happy that sometimes I can play better chess if that counts. Incidentally, when I started doing this exercise I could not imagine me smokefree in a years time at all. I thought I had vision issues but it turned out that I wasn't relaxed enough. Btw, heres the test to see if you can envision. Sit back, close your eyes. Now imagine your front door from the outside. Can you imagine the door in your mind? What colour is it? What side is the handle? Now open your eyes and go down and have a look from the outside. If you guessed correctly then you have vision. When we began our journey to quit, we all started with visions of the new us. I think some of us tend to not focus on growing the "new" and better person. It sort of falls to the wayside in our battle. Yet....I think it is very important to the quit. Otherwise we feel lost and out of place. Almost like an identity crisis. Without new goals we never become familiar with the "new" person.....but instead....look longingly for the familiar territory of the old us. What steps have you taken towards evolving toward that new person you initially invisioned?
