Can't Sleep

for 20 år siden 0 142 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I take 450 mg of Trazadone @ bedtime. I only sleep 2-6 hours, I also have Fibromyalgia and Restless Leg Syndrome. Even when I'm asleep, my body isn't. I'm never able to get into the good PhaseIV (REM) sleep. I would love to have ONE night's deep sleep, have a dream and wake feeling refreshed and restored. Della

Well, thanks for the compliment but I'm no doctor. I've just been dealing with this thing long enough to know a thing or two. I don't know much about the people that you've mentioned. The next thing that helped me was this thing caled Saito Therapy. It is very basic, smart and works. And the last thing I tried was the Linden Method. All 3 have their strong points. After looking at all of them and trying them out I have realized that many people (most people) just need to figure out what works for them. All three people that I mentioned above have constructed their methods based on THEIR OWN finds. They may have taken hints and shortcuts from others but they have pieced it all together based on what worked for them. That is what I am trying to do. You can sit and listen to tapes, do breathing exercises, count by twos, etc... all day long; but when it comes down to it you really need to find out what helps YOUR anxiety. Not what helps other people. Because we all have different fears and bodies. I mean, EVERYTHING helps- don't get me wrong; but you do have to be active in healing your self. Oh, and I think Lucinda Bassett's program starts mostly with trying to heal your body, followed by your mind. As in, if you start eating right, exercising, etc- you'll feel better physically which will help you to feel better mentally. I hope some of this helps. :) Sincerely, -Tony Edited on 11/18/2004 @ 5:01:17 PM by The NicoTest Support Team

Tony, Thanks, you seem to really know what you're talking about. That last post seriously helped alot! Since you are an anxiety veteran, let me ask your opinion of the following authors & their techniques: 1. Brownyn Fox 2. Lucinda Bassett 3. Charles Linden 4. Dr. Bert Anderson: http://www.healingpanic.com/ ::I bought his healing program and it makes much sense, however I didn't complete it:: 5. Dr. Claire Weekes And finally, what's a good way to be able to combat these negative thoughts that interfere with sleep? How can I get some sleep? Thanx again! P.S. Anybody else with advice, please feel free to join the discussion.

By the way- I ALSO have experienced forgetfullness in the past. There is one reason for this. Your mind is incapable of concentrating on more than one thing at a time. You may be able to multi-task when you're doing chores or whatever but that's because you are switching from this to that. When it comes to actually thinking, it's just plain impossible. Try dividing 1836 by 24 and at the SAME TIME try and write a short paragraph on what you did on your last vacation. See- it's IMPOSSIBLE. Why am I telling you this? Because when you're thinking about anxiety you can't concentrate on much else. So what you're deeming as forgetfullness isn't really your fault. It isn't really forgetfullness at all- it's more of a blcokage due to a tired mind and focusing on the wrong things. So yeah, most of us with anxiety suffer from it here and there. You do NOT have Alzheimer's disease. It'll pass once you start focusing on the present moment rather than your anxiety. I promise. I hope this helps!!! Feel better. -T

Tony & Adrenaline Rush, It actually comforts me to know that you guys experience the same symptoms that I do. Adrenaline Rush, when you said that you to experienced the forgetfulness & explained it the way you did,it seriously eased my mind a great deal! The most common fear I have is that I'm not normal,ie.,I'm insane or something. The other fears that plague me are not being in control of a situation & the the feelings of forgetfulness means that I'm slipping into dementia or something. But like I said before,I'm 39 years old. Alzheimers is not something the a person my age has to worry about & it's not genetic in my family, nobody in my family has ever suffered from it. So,hearing convincing things that counter my fears with logic, seriously comfort & help me. I also have had a medical checkup & have a clean bill of health, other than the anxiety condition. Does anyone else out here experience the forgetfulness & fear that they are going crazy? Please respond. Thanx. :)

Nik, Tony is 100% right, I also experience that also. Im sure everyone gets tired of hearing the same thing about excepting the symptons of this disorder and that the symptons are they very thing we are afraid of, and the repeating cycle it brings on us. That is why I feel its very important to educate one self on the symptons of this disorder so you won't be bluff by them anymore. Please Don't think that I'm being insenstive to anyone, because trust me I still suffer with the symptons. I just now have the facts on how to extingish the symptons, before they get to out of control. I get to practic extingish them on a daily basis they just don't hold there grip anymore. I to wake up in the middle of the night and do the breathing exercises and I try and listen to other noises going on around me, its suppose to give the mind a rest and break the thinking cycle. I also will have forget fullness, like all be having a conversation with someone and forget what I was talking about or driving and think was the light green or did I just run a red light, because my mind may have been focusing on my heart rate or what ever. Your brain becomes a little slow and tired when it is constanly being bombarded with messages of fearful thoughts and self doubt it kind of goes in to protective mode and you may feel that spacey feeling it a natural and normal body function. Thats why a tired mind can so easily get a song stuck in your head. Once you get busy and no longer give it any attenion you'll will notice that the song has gone away. I try and have complete phyiscal ever year, just had one done and it helps to see that I really am healthy, it also gives me a chance to ask the doctors about anything else that has been bothering me. I hope, that I didn't sound like a jibberish fool to you. Only want to help. Best wishes.

Not to worry, we have all experienced this to a degree. I know it sounds completely OBVIOUS but it is only your worry of these symptoms that keep them going. I suffered from insomnia last year for a few months. It was AWFUL. If there was any escape for me from panic and anxiety it was always sleep. When THAT was taken away from me I felt totally defeated. I wouldn't have any trouble getting to sleep but I would only sleep for like 3 hours. When I woke up I always woke up with a heart that seemed to beat so hard I could swear it was waking up the neighbors. After that it would take me hours to calm down. By the time I'd start to feel better it was time to go to work. Therefore I was averaging about 3-4 hours of sleep per night. It was awful. And then I'd worry all day about how tired I was AND if I was going to get any sleep that night. Well, how did I overcome it? I just accepted it. I decided that worrying about it was not improving my sleep nor my production during the day. I just decided that if I needed 3 hrs of sleep then that's what my body was telling me to get. Eventually I got so used to it that I started sleeping 4-5-6-7-8 hours. The point? The minute you just accept these things the magnifying glass is taken off of them and they have time to rectify themselves naturally. The same goes for scary thoughts that you may be having right now. You get all wound up because you're afraid of them. If you just accept that all sorts of thoughts are normal and that you shouldn't fear them then you'll start to see them dissipate. I PROMISE. Thoughts are fleeting unless you CONCIOUSLY decide to focus on them. And of course you're gonna focus on them if you fear them. Make sense? I know this is all a lot easier to say than to do. I know because I've been there. But try to have a little faith in the fact that others have been where you have been and others have gotten over it. You's not THAT special ;) Be well and let me know how things go. Sincerely, -Tony

Does anybody have fragmented sleep, where you fall asleep for a few minutes, begin having irrational, scary thoughts about going crazy, then wake up startled within minutes, afraid & feeling anxious? Also, does anybody have trouble concentrating & feeling forgetful as a symtom of your anxiety? I suffer from Panic Disorder & am on a daily dose of 25mg of Zoloft. My biggest fear is losing control of...everything! My life,my mind especially. I've suffered from anxieties for years, having my 1st attack back around 1990. However, between 1990 & Sept of 2004,I managed to not have any panic attacks at all. Just anxiety symptoms once in a while brought on by fearful thoughts, like Do I have cancer? Do I have some strange illness that I'm unaware of,etc. But in Sept of this year,I woke up from a bad dream to a full blown, hardcore whopper of a panic attack! The 1st one in 14 years! I went to see a therapist & she officially diagnosed me w/PD. September was a bad month. October started out bad,but around the middle of Oct,all subsided & I actually felt 100% better...Till 2 days ago when I had a setback & felt panicky again. Now,I can't sleep,I'm back to being afraid of going nuts,or that I am going to get alzheimer's because I am experiencing forgetfulness. (I'm 39 years old) No,not forgetting my name,or my kids names or my wife's name or anything like that, just stupid, little things, like the name of a movie,or a book title, etc. Things that I normally would have rapid recall before! Well, this is the "latest" thing that's causing me anxiety & reason to want to panic. Can anybody relate? Thanx!
