Thanks for responding. I am on medication though. Can barley do this without it but I did go to my session today about the cognitive therapy. I am hoping to really use it and get back to work by the first of the year. I tried to go to work once but wasn't ready. Man this is hard but I am going to kick it. Thanks Brenda

Sorry I didn't see your post!! There are heaps of methods and techniques used by Cognitive Behaviour therapists and your therpaist will work out what is best for you to use. Most of us avoid situations becuase we fear we will have a panic attack, pass out, vomit, go crazy in front of others etc etc. It's not realistic thinking really and CBT teaches you how to get back into what you avoid by teaching you how to cope. For example, your therapist might work with you in his rooms and get you to just think about an axiety producing situation. As you think about a situation that causes you anxiety your body tenses, you may even feel a panic attack coming on. The therapist will then get you to relax while you think about the situation until you can think about it without an axiety response. (I hope I'm making sense). How you learn to react in therapy will also work when you try it out for real. I could go on and on but if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!!!

You really think that Cognitive behavior is what did it for you. I am trying so hard to teach myself to think differently and more positively and I am starting with a therapist next week again for train for this cognitive behavior. I too want to get better and would like to do it without the medication. Seems as though my doctore can't find the right one for me anyway so what the heck. Give me an example of the Cognitive therapy

I've seen alot of posts where people are undecided about taking meds or not. I just want to say while it works well for some people you don't necessarily need it to get better. Each person is different but you CAN do it without the drugs. I took aropax (same as paxil) the first time I started suffering panic. My doc told me I had a chemical imbalance and there was nothing else I could do and that I would have to take it for the rest of my life. It worked wonders and I got back into life but the doc said if I stopped taking it I would relapse. I kept taking it but went through another bad stage of panic which turned into avoidance and agoraphobia. I hit rock bottom and couldn't leave the house. Since the drugs were no longer working I weaned myself off them and starting educating myself, changing my diet and seeing a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I went from rock bottom and am now getting better and better each day, I never stop educating myself or trying new things (such as this program). Just so you know, this CAN be overcome without the drugs.
