Hi, I am on the birth control pill and i still get worse anxiety and panic for about a week before and during my period. I think it definitly has something to do with hormones.

All I can say is that the worst episodes of my life always seemed to happen during the two weeks between ovulation and the onset of my period. For me I suspect it's because my progesterone levels don't get high enough to balance my estrogen levels. Estrogen dominance can lead to a myriad of symptoms including emotional ones.

anxiety attacks increase before periods?!?! Well that explains a lot. I did not know that. Does anyone else get that happen and when do you find it occurs? During, the week before the week after? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

i too can relate to all of your symptoms- have you ever been in a grocery store and your looking at your list and you feel like you're walking in circles not knowing what to get? i have that happen all the time and i shop there every week!! i also agree with the connetion between the levels of anxiety rising and our menstrual cycle approaching- my attacks are intensified 10x. sometimes when i'm at work, i'll walk into the restroom and i feel like i'm floating and i think am i really in here, which i know i am but it feels like an out of body experience. hope things get better for you!!

Hey "foggy" In my world it is know as "Fibro Fog". Very commonplace for people with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. FMS patients go years without the kind of necessary REM sleep, therefore we don't dream. We can rest with meds for 12 hrs and never feel as though we even slept. After the body goes so long with not enough sleep, we get "foggy". POW's cracked under the pressure. Sleep Deprivation was used as means of torture. Just a few facts, Della

Yes, I also get this feeling, mine is made worse when I have a cold as I get sinus pressure around my eyes......It is also terrible when I don't get enough sleep. For the 1st 6 weeks I went on Paxil, I was up every 3 hours during the night and would finally just get up between 5 and 6 a.m.I am a person who needs my sleep, so I would walk around almost in a daze, my anxiety was sky high, and I was mentally and physically exhausted and drained.......

I get a feeling of not being where I am. I am not sure if that is what you are talking about or not. Whenever I go into a crowded place or an open space I feel like I am not truly there. That is acutally what makes my fears worse.

I knew coming to this board would help me feel a little better. As many times as I've gone through this brain fog, I still need reminding that this is common and will go away once I rest my tired mind. For me it started yesterday after I lost a couple of hours sleep (on top of dealing with other problems). It's not too bad today, so I guess it'll pass soon. Gina, what you said about higher anxiety when sick with colds and stuff is exactly what happens to me, too. I started noticing it in my teens. Whenever I'd catch the latest stomach virus I'd feel like I was going out of my head, especially if there's a fever. It's bad enough to be sick, but to be sick and feeling like you're losing your marbles is a real drag. I guess the only advice I can think of is to rest and come to this board whenever you need reassurance that these feelings are common and will pass. Also, keep in mind that sometimes we rest our bodies but forget to rest our minds. By that I mean giving ourselves permission to stop trying to think of a solution to our troubles 24/7. Take a break from problem solving for a while and rest your weary brain.

Hi Gina, I totally relate to that. Not only foggy but also dizzy and trouble thinking clearly. Sometimes I feel like I am searching for words while I am in a conversation and having trouble maintaining focus. Incidentally I feel like my anxiety gets more intense around my menstral times. I guess there is a connection between anxiety and hormones. I find the same thing Ann, when I get tired at night or if I haven't had enough sleep, things are much worse. I do find it helps if I can remember to remind myself of these "triggers". For example if I'm having an exceptionally bad day it helps to say, "I am just tired," or "It is close to my period" etc. It makes the intense panic attacks seem less random. I hope that helps.
