healing power of music

Interesting ideas on how music soothes the mind and soul!

Music also links us back to certain memories so hopefully happy memories also help to induce a happy feeling when listening to certain songs.

I completely agree with everything said here. I find driving to be an incredible relief from anxiety and i hadnt thought of the connection before but i always listen to the radio too! Usually something upbeat if i am feeling good or classical music if im a bit on edge. I love Bob Dylan and The Beatles for getting right.

Most definitely, distractions were a big part in helping me overcome.  Something to keep the mind busy, rather then focus on the bs that comes with anxiety.  And music, maaaaaaan music is a part of my life like water is to the ocean.  I've also heard it helps raise serotonin levels, explains why a great song can enhance the mood so much!

i know this is an old thread but...as a musician and some research i have done on music its supposedly raise's seritonin levels?that would explain music being relaxing also driving i would assume that focusing on driving would divert the anxious feelings into another energy just a thought from chris.

How true your words are. I have found comfort in music time and time again. I have one CD, Pink Floyd's Obscured By CLouds, that usually does the trick. If I am in a rut, I put that CD wherever I am and it eventually calms me out of my anxiety. Most Pink Floyd works well for me. Tori Amos has long been my favorite for everything under the sun. Seeing her 19 times in concert has also done wonders for me. I also find playing the piano to be most pleasurable. David

I just started doing this before bed, I noticed that I am strangely relaxed when I am driving my car around. And I think part of the reason obviously is my concentration on my driving but a large part is I don't put the car in drive before turning the radio or cd player on and listen to my favourite tunes. Now before bed I either put on a set of headphones and listen while lying in bed or sit with the television off laying on the couch and listening to the stereo, I usually listen to fairly calm music r&b or new country or soft rock, this relaxes me alot. If you havent tried it and have problems getting to sleep maybe it can help you.
