Hi Guys... I have answered that question twice now and I can't remember in what thread I put it ... it was an answer to the same question from Genevieve... maybe in "stats"... anyway, Dave has Googled it and Basho the great Haiku poet made it into a full poem... I think that the phrase was originally used memorably by a Shinto priest and that Basho made it up into a full 17 syllables by changing the words and adding another -
(17 syllables) Samazama no koto omoidasu sakura kana
[(15 syllables) Sama zama no mono omoi dasu sakura]
which gives you the translation that Dave posted...
(Lol...Neither the Priest nor Basho smoked tobacco...)
when I first read the older version I wished that I didn't smoke which is why I like to remember it when I have to get a soul-destroying addiction out of my system...

Thanks Dave, appreciate it!! Could have waited till my future son in law returns from his home in Japan, but I'm glad to know what it means, maybe I will practice up and recite it to him when he returns, that would surprise him!!
Have a very happy smoke free day!!
Looks like Daily's not about and as I was curious too I did the obvious and Googled it. It seems to be a Haiku which translates as
"Myriads of things past
Are brought to my mind -
These cherry blossoms!"
