Thank you Sylvie..you guys are so much help. I do feel that I never ever want to even look at a cig again after feeling so bad all week! I guess that is what counts! I feel so much stronger about being a non smoker, I just can't understand why I waited so long...double dumb of me! Islandgirl, Chronic bronchitis is often caused by tobacco smoke. It goes into overdrive and secretes a lot of mucus in the lungs. After quitting, your lungs take quite a while to heal. There's fine hairs in your lungs called cilia that become paralyzed and burnt when you smoke. After you quit, they start working again and their job is to clean your lungs, so the cilia try to wipe the infection out. Get well soon, Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

I had that lung infection before and after Christmas and I've read a couple of posts in here where new quitters had the same thing before they quit also... So, I think it's more related to that creepy little bacteria running around North America than it is to quitting smoking... Bet you're glad that you did give up the insidious smokes already, huh? By my second lot of antibiotics I started to get better noticeably after day 4 and by day 6 I was clear in the lungs but weak as a pup for another week after... Of course, one is always more prone to infections while a heavy, long-time smoker anyway.. Hope you get better soon Doktor Llama My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/18/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 625 Amount Saved: $281.25 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 18 Mins: 55 Seconds: 52

Hey Kids!! I know there are many of you out there in the medical field that are on this website and I was hoping maybe someone can give me a bit of advice. Is there are reason linked to quitting smoking that would explain why I developed such a severe case of bronchitis AFTER I quit smoking? My lungs and chest hurt so badly and have since Saturday. I have been to the Dr and am on Z-pak antibiotics and 40 mg of prednisone a day and still feel horrible. He told me if I had waited 48 hours more, I would have been hospitilized..is this just a coincidence, or have others experienced anything like this? Thank you in advance for any and all helpful suggestions, I don't have time to be sick, I have to take care of my Mother. :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 396 Amount Saved: $84.15 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 4 Mins: 10 Seconds: 55
