Hi Chris, Please keep in mind that everyone is unique and as such will have different experiences with different medications. What works great for some may not work so great for others. Be sure to follow-up with your doctor regarding any medication concerns. Casey _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hi again Chris, I've read the other posts that were added later to this discussion. Spriggy makes some valid points in response. Although I am a firm believer that everyone has a different metabolic rate. I also believe their are people who are predisposed to addictive behavior. Because I am not one of these personalities, I do not believe I'm prone to abuse alcohol. I do not drink, not because I can't, but because I don't want to. All of the medications mentioned in this discussion has a label warning people not to drink alcohol, because it may intensify the drugs effects. Caution and Safety must be adhered to. Talk to your Dr and express your concerns and your expectations. They know about all of these type drugs and will be able to prescribe the meds that fit your needs. Della

I don't take Effexor and although I've heard people say it is very effective for anxiety and panic attacks, I have read through research that Effexor is absolutely the worst of the Anti Depressents when you come off of it. It has a reputation of being just horrific when trying to cease it. There also seems to be some kind of component in it that compells people to abuse alcohol. At first I thought that was crazy but I have read it and heard it from so many different people that I am beginning to believe it. I personally would stay away from Effexor because even if it is effective treatment for a while, I would not want to endure the side effects and most especially the withdrawal symptoms. Have you tried Lexapro or maybe Prozac? They seem to be the milder of the bunch.

Chris, I was on Effexor for about 6 months. Everyone is different and it may work for you but in my case it made me very depressed and because of that they took my off of it. Coming off the Effexor was very difficult if I moved my head I threw up, I felt very sick and it lasted days later on the doctors told me that both that and paxil were 2 of the hardest meds of there kind to come off of. Like I said it definitely could work for you. Just wanted to tell you my experiece with it.

Chris, In my experience with Effexor XR, it did not give me energy. I take it before I go to bed with my Trazadone. The combination of both by my Dr, was meant to relax me to get some sleep and relieve my Restless Legs. I am able to sleep of these drowsiness because I take it before bedtime. The XR in the Effexor carries over to the next day to keep my Anxiety at a manageable level. It does not work for the unexpected attacks I might have, as I believe this is the case with most meds. Be sure to keep in touch with your Doc as to your progress or the lack thereof. Your dosage will likely need to be changed, keep a positive outlook toward your recovery. Della P.S. Maybe someone else in the group has a different point of view.
